  • Common Sense says

War in Iraq isn't funny -- neither is this movie.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 13–14

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Culturally insensitive characters can't tell the difference between Mexicans and Iraqis. Even though the cuisine and dress are stereotypically Mexican, these things are still confused with Iraqi culture.
  • Violence:

Military-issued machine guns are used against gangsters with various weapons. Many shots are fired, but there's no blood or obvious deaths. One character is accidentally buried alive. Reference (innuendo-style) to rape.
  • Sex:

Jokes about "quickies," "hooters," and "C-cups" innuendo about homosexual sex, marriage.
  • Language:

Mostly "s--t," but also "retard," "ass," "a--hole," "bitch," "t--s," "piss," and "godamnit."
  • Consumerism:

    Hooters restaurant, Corona beer, Chewbacca.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

The guys drink tequila and beer; Larry chews tobacco.

What Parents Need to Know

About Delta Farce

Parents need to know that this lowbrow war send up is aimed at 13-year-olds who like broad jokes based on stereotypes. Since the story is about three dopey reservists who confuse Mexico for Iraq, there are several culturally insensitive moments that portray Mexicans (not to mention Southern men) very stereotypically. Language includes "s--t" and "retard." Star Larry the Cable Guy and his pals spew many fart jokes and fire many rounds of ammunition for their "mission." Families with loved ones deployed in Iraq probably won't be amused, even if the movie is dedicated to the troops.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about whether this movie is a criticism of the war or a tribute to the troops it's dedicated to. Is it funny to ridicule the military, the war, and active reservists? Why or why not? How are Mexicans portrayed? What stereotypes does the film exploit? Does calling something a "spoof" mean it's OK to go for laughs based on labels and preconceived notions?

I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVEIT, LOVE!!!!

Ok, this is a great movie. Language isn't that bad if you don't care about the words "retard" and "piss" etc. There are a few sex references, but nothing bad. I think that people 8+ can watch this. They also insult gay people, which I don't mind hearing, but I wouldn't insult them. Overall, a good movie.

War in Iraq isn't funny, but this movie sure is

Ok, anyone who couldnt find at least 10 laughing moments has no common sense. My parents and I watched it at home as a rented movie last night and I couldnt stop laughing. Not any sex, theres language- but you can expect it from Larry and Bill engvall. The violence is mild and mostly slapstick. The men, larry, bill, and their prissy friend, after another bogus week, decide to go on a hunting trip, only to be mistaken for Army soldiers after Sgt. Killgore sees their great shooting. They train for a wile and eventualy get on the plane. In the middle of the night, theres a storm, which causes trouble and the pilots are forced to drop their humvee. So then they begin their war on terror in the wrong country, but for a good reason, since a thug coincidentaly named Carlos Santana, and his gang are terrorizing Mexico city. Pros: The seargent drinks from a canteen that was peed in, he eats rations full of larrys Chew tobacco, and I laughed at the wanna-bees playing Jeff dunham with their own Jose the jalapeneo on a steek characters and obviously failing with either dumb, or offensive jokes. I have no cons. Any one under 12 would not get the humor, but for 12 and up, its funny, so you should definatly rent it. Common sense has no common sense in their "War in Iraq isnt funny, neither is this movie" because it is funny.

    Boring

Movie was pretty lame. When the guys inadvertently land in Mexico they are called upon the duty to help a small village regain peace. Personally, I think the movie is a little culturally biased and I wouldnt recommend the $1.00 you can spend on the redbox machine to rent it.
