What Parents Need to Know

About My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Parents need to know that there is a non-graphic sexual situation, but it is clear that Toula and Ian wait until they are really committed before going to bed together. Characters drink (Ian's parents are introduced to powerful Greek Ouzo).

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about cultural differences. Do your kids know any families where the couples come from different backgrounds? How have those differences created problems or new opportunities for new, blended traditions? Why does Toula have a hard time telling her family how she feels? How does this family compare to others that you know or have seen in other movies, or to your own? Does your family have a combination of ethnic cultures, and what are some of the issues that have come up in meshing them?

    4 and 1/2 stars

This is an excellent movie. There is a bit of sensuality (mild) and language (also very mild.) The leads are very convincing and lovable.

    Great Movie

I love this movie! I have seen it many times. This movie is all about following your heart even when others aren't supportive. It also says you have to have faith because anyone can find love.

Funny, But Too Short to Become Invested...

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING is funny, but is too short for us to become emotionally invested in it. We never really care about the characters or situations, and that makes this an inferior romantic comedy compared to SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE and YOU'VE GOT MAIL. However, it is cute and funny, and a good choice to kids. There is one mild, brief sexual situation in addition to some light innuendos. Ian and Toula drive home every night (he usually drops her off at her house), but one night they go to his apartment, and he invites her in. She considers a moment, then accepts, and we see them kiss passionately (standing up), then she pushes him down on a couch (out of view) and pounces on him. After that scene, we see them in bed together twice (clothed, except that he's shirtless), but no action goes on. The innuendos include stuff like "Greek women are tigers in the bedroom". A man who can't understand Greek tries to say something nice twice, but both times ends up saying something else: "I have three testicles" and "nice boobs". There are a few "a*s"s and "d**n"s.

    Hahahaha!..Sorry it's just too funny!

This movie is SO funny! I think I have watch about 8 times and it never becomes less funny. After their first date, the main character and the man she falls in love with kiss, their kiss escalates until they are making-out. Also on I think a month after they start dating they go to his apartment and you see him standing by the couch and she "pounces" on him and it is implied they have sex. Also when he asks her to marry him, he is shirtless and she is in a bra on top of him in bed. That's it, ENJOY the movie! I recommend this movie for kid and adults ages 5+. Be warned for kids about 7-10 may raise questions.

This is definitely a movie the whole family can watch together. There is a strong focus around the struggle between parents and children when dealing with generation gaps of traditions and beliefs. It also taps into the customs and traditions of the Greeks. I highly enjoyed this movie and recommend it to most.
