A man is shot with some blood show, several beatings, a older teen is brutaly beatan while being commented on his race and being called a "stupid f--k" with refrence to wartime and gross war time actions. And even a part were a boy is burned with a ciggarete by another teen who is obviously too young too be smoking, this happens another time where a younger girl smokes. Extreme racism and non-stop language plus some violence makes this beutiful new drama very adult.

Eastwood gives a powerful performance in gran torino
Clint Eastwood stars in this great film about an old drawn out man who i thought needed someone that liked him. He becomes friends with an asain boy who tried to steal his car. The movie is happy, sad, and funny. And for the people that dont like the racial slurs, get a grip! They put that in the movie for humor and to show that he hated those zipper heads! =)

This movie is not for children at all. I had a difficult time as an adult woman listening to the offensive language. The "F" word is used repeatedly; and there is constant racial slurs which I find inappropriate for ANY audience. The only highlight is how Clint Eastwood becomes a "father figure" for the boy next door and keeps the youngster from being "dragged" literally, into a neighborhood gang.

The movie was well done, and told a great story. It explains the old racist guys story. You get to understand that his life experiences, and his burdens turned him into a grumpy racist old man, but deep down he was a very good person who used his grumpy persona to protect himself from every day life and relationships. I thought Eastwoods character and Ahney Hers character really worked well together. Ahneys character was bright, accepting, and open minded. She brought Eastwood out of his shell. She knew enough history and common sense to tear down his emotional walls. By befriending Eastwood he gained a respect for her people, and built a fatherly relationship with Toah. Toah gained confidence and self respect, and Eastwood was able to have his father-son relationship vicariously through being friends with Toah. The whole thing about Mexican and Asians being depicted as gangsters is missing the point completely. The gang reference was aimed at youth today. If you want to get offended, the Caucasian kid got depicted as wigger p*ssy. Which brings me to a whole other issue, Caucasian kids that dress in baggy clothes & Jordans arent trying to be black. Maybe if they talk like black folks, but then again your surroundings mold you. Clothing is simply a style. In fact most kids (of all races) today other than Goth or EMO kids, dress in baggy clothes, not to be black, its just a style. The end of the movie was really touching. Eastwood finally at peace with himself, decided to help free the neighbourhood of gang bangers. He gave his life not only to protect his new friends, and neighbours, but to repent his sin of murdering a 17 year old on the battle field. Even though the Asian elders were not able to communicate their respect, their actions spoke volumes. The movie was an excellent story about forgiveness, acceptance, and racial understanding. I think every family should rent this movie.

A must see Eastwood movie, after you're 16
Very good movie, best I've seen in a long time. Yes it's true that Clint's character, as well as many others, were very racist. Some swearing, a lot of modest drinking. I thought most of the story lines and street scenes seemed pretty realistic. At times the movie was actually educational (about Hmong history), funny, heartwarming, and dramatic. It really had it all. This is a movie I want to see again and will quickly add to my DVD collection. I do believe those 15 and under could be a bit too scared by some of the violence scenes because of the realism of how the movie unfolds.

Best movie!
This movie is for kids age 15 and up. There is little violence. You see a girl after she gets beaten up but not while she gets beaten up. And you see a guy get shot. There is a lot of racism and cursing but without it the movie wouldn't have as much meaning to it. All around though it was an amazing movie!

Vroom Vroom!
I just watched Grand Torino this evening with my father. We both really enjoyed it. Clint Eastwood brought back his original feelings of power and compassion that I have missed for ohhh so long. The movie was VERY violent and held racist attitudes through out. Life lessons are taught and feelings run rampid all through out the film. Not one for kids. I would say 15 + for this one.

A FANTASTIC performance by all!
Gran Torino was my first R-Rated. It rightfully deserves that title, but honestly, the violence is virtually mild, mind a few beatdowns, but the language is....phew; he was spittin some serious harsh words and racial slurs, he must've said the f-word 15 times by himself. Still, FANTASTIC MOVIE!

Powerful film about violence.
The message of this movie is about the way that violence damages people. A central component of the story is that the Eastwood character carries the enormous burden of the violence he saw and did during war. We are not supposed to see him as a role model. But as we come to understand the complexity of his past, we have compassion for him. Further, his character, while racist, begins to have a relationship with the Hmong neighbors that is, initially, in response to his horror at the violence of the gang. Eastwood's character, the working class, grumpy old white guy who has seen his neighborhood change dramatically, is not a one dimensional character. At one point he comments that he has more in common with his Hmong neighbors than with his own sons. This is a complex movie - about race, class, and violence. The racist language can be jarring, but it is a vivid depiction of a piece of American life. Ultimately the message is about the tragedy of violence and it challenges us to be compassionate. We brought two mature thirteen year olds. They were disturbed by it, but loved it and we had some great conversation about racism and violence. Children see a lot of casual violence in the media, this movie actually makes the psychic and physical damage of violence real.

Excellent for this "type" of movie
Typical Eastwood movie. If you like Eastwood and Eastwood movies.....then this is for you. Rough language, however funny in some places of the movie. TAKE TISSUES. ADULT MOVIE ONLY.

EXCELLENT MOVIE - for adults only
We saw this movie at a SAG screening in Hollywood, with Q&A afterwards with the producers. My husband and I LOVED this movie. That said, we would let our 18 year old son watch it but no one younger than that. And the only reason why we would let him watch it is because there isn't any sex and the story has A LOT of redeeming value. It stays with you and makes you a better person. However, there is enough swearing and racist slurs in this film to last a lifetime -- many I've never heard before but knew what they were due to the film's context. The only reason why you keep on watching and aren't offended by the language is because the language isn't gratuitious and is couched ONLY as part of Clint Eastwood's character -- for a reason. I don't want to give the movie away, but suffice it to say Clint's character couldn't undergo the change he needs to for the movie to work if his character wasn't so gruff in the beginning. I never saw Dirty Harry, but a lot of people who did compare Clint's character in this movie to his Dirty Harry character. The story is wonderful. Can make you cry in the end. While many would think this is a guys-only movie, I'm a woman and enjoyed it thoroughly. The screenplay was perfect -- near as I could tell. The storytelling was excellent. And each scene was masterfully done. I'm sure this movie will get multiple award nominations come 2009. This is a movie to be scene on the big screen, not DVD. Why? Because Clint does such an amazing acting job and each scene is set up so beautifully it is an engrossing experience to see it on the big screen to get the fullness of the film. This film proves that you don't need lots of special effects to make a big-screen experience completely worth your money.

Gran Torino is Great
Gran Torino is a great movie for teens and adults. I would say the content is iffy for teens around 15. The thing about the content in this movie though is that it is not excessive, there is enough to show the characters and events to make the movie feel realistic, but there isn't just say lots of unnecessary violence like in gory horror movies where gore overruns plot. The local gangs have predictable potty mouths and language is not sheltered at all like it is on stuff like Disney Channel. The conversations are like those you would hear in a real high school. There is not a lot of violence but when there is it is realistic, brutal, and quick. Very little sexual content shown on screen, but conversations and threats are every where. There are some good role models and a LOT of bad ones. There is a lot of heart in the movie though, and it is great for adults and teenagers. The only problem I had watching it was the pacing was a little off toward the middle and I think more could have been cut. But it is still definately a 5/5 star movie in my opinion.

Moving but racist film
The language was unbelievable, but "Gran Torino" is ultimately a fantastic movie with unflinching performances by all. As you can see by its box office numbers, "Torino" is a very popular film. Only Eastwood could make millions upon millions of people flock to theaters to see a movie about a stubborn old man and his foreign neighbors. All teens, in my opinion, should see this movie.

Gran Torino is a film based on racism and gangs that will tell a fantastic story about life. I would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 13. Clint Eastwood plays the main character in this movie, Walt, and does a magnificent job. Eastwood plays an older man who is a Korean War veteran. He lives in Detroit in a run down neighborhood, with many Asian immigrants. Walt is not comfortable with all of the gangs and immigrants that live in his neighborhood because he is racist. The Hmong family moves in next door and Walt can’t stand them, especially the young teenage boy, Thao, who keeps staring at his 1972 Gran Torino. Walt doesn’t dare to come close to the Hmong family, but his dog Daisy has come closer to them then he ever thought she would. Over time Walt begins to befriend his neighbor when he sees a gang messing with Thao’s sister Sue. Thao and Walt become close to one another after Walt saves Sue from being beaten. Time goes on and Walt finds himself spending more time with Thao. The story ends in tragedy when Walt sacrifices his life. Thao is devastated, but he becomes happy to know that Walt left his ’72 Gran Torino to him. This film is superb, even though it shows fight-scenes and also has racist language. The language used and fights that are showed are key to the message this film relays. Gran Torino teaches you to make friends with anyone no matter the age, race, or history.

Captivating movie really "R" for profanity.
Gran Torino is the story of an old, racist man who befriends, ironically, a young man from around Asia. What's good is that the main guy (Eastwood) turns around his life. Profanity, sadly is the main force behind the "R" rating, which is sad because I feel that the story is great, and more people wouldn't have been scared off by the big fat "R" on the bottom end of a poster. Perfect coming-of-age movie!

Oh woop-dee-do, so what if there is swearing? I had to watch it with my SUNDAY-SCHOOL-TEACHER Behind me! She is pretty cool about everything though.=] Clint Eastwood is like, my hero, I guess. He has personality in his acting. Main point-Get over yourself, and quit acting as though your kid lives in a bubble.

Pretty violent ( though the violence has a purpose and needs it for the plot) and has a lot of language and racist remarks involving gangs. it gives a good look into gangs and why not to ever get involved with one. also you see a teenage girl come home and you can see that she was raped and beaten horribly(though you do not see when it happens). there is also a shooting at the end that kills a man with many many bullets. I recommend it because it tells a good story and is one of my favorite movies. it also tells that friendship comes in all different packages. a good message.

Gran Torino starring Clint Eastwood, is a film about a Polish Korean War veteran who is hates the Hmong neighbors. But over time develops relationships with his neighbors. This movie only has strong language (Mostly when we see the gangs) and some non-graphic violence and a scene where we briefly see non-graphic pornography. This is a great film for 13+!

This is a great movie! It is a must see for every 14+ teens. It has a great moral lesson. It teaches about life value and respecting other countries culture and ways of life. It would be disturbing to any veiwers under the age of 14. Only for mature 14 and 15 year olds, but a must see for every 16+ teen.

A great film shot in my own state.
Is it better than Eastwood's "Million Dollar Baby?" Probably not. But it is still pretty fantastic! Although Clint uses a lot of swear words and racial slurs, they aren't used just for the sake of being used. I don't want to go into detail about this, so see the movie to understand what I'm talking about. This movie was rolling-on-the-floor funny, heart-poundingly exciting, and gut-wrenchingly sad. It is a VERY decent film, to say the least. If you can look past the plot hole, you'll enjoy it. A very vigorous web of an Asian teenager caught between family and gang.

Interesting.. Good plot
Gran Torino was a very intersting movie. It felt like it was shot as a home-video type film and it didn't have the mainstream feel that a lot of movies do. The previews really weren't able to describe the movie. It's not really a crazy action movie. It's more about a lonely, cranky old man who saves his Hmong neighbors from being beaten up by a gang and they eventually become friends. When their lives are in danger he risks his own and kind of learns what the meaning of life is all about. It thought it was very intriguing and I would like to watch it again. The only disclaimer is that it is full of a lot of unnecessary language (mainly the f-word) used by the gang members and Eastwood himself.

This is the first Clint Eastwood film I watched. There was a lot of language(racism, cursing etc.). There was also violence implied in this film. The violence I thought was minimal. In conclusion this film was the best movie I ever watched in my life.

I thought this was a great movie, Clint Eastwood is great and fits his role perfectly. This movie isn't as violent as i thought it would be, except for a couple of scenes, sex is much of an issue... a girl is raped(Not Shown but assumed) and a number of sexual vocab in use. Language is extremely strong and many racist remarks. even though there aren't many good role models in this movie there are many lessons portrayed in this

Gran Torino is the best Clint Eastwood drama i've seen in a while because it shows you he's not just some old man who sits around he helps and protects people and is very cool. I'm surprised his performance got overlooked at the oscars. See it.

VIOLENCE, LANGUAGE AND A LOT OF LAUGHS!
Gran Torino is amazing, I even saw it twice, but it has frequents uses of the F-Word and some strong violence, including a shooting (no blood seen) and a teenager is burnt on the face by a cigarette. It is very sad and intense at many parts. I was nine when I saw it earlier in the year, but I have seen alot of mature films this year (aka. Slumdog Millionaire, Boy In the striped Pyjamas, etc) and this is quite disturbing. But made it to be my No. 1 film of all time. VIOLENCE: Strong at scenes LANGUAGE: Strong and continues throughout. RACISM: Names such as gooks and other profanities.

Wahoo!!! Clint Eastwood!!!
Great movie. I was surprised to see Clint Eastwood back up on the big screen with a whole new character. Since he is old(er) he plays an old(er) character who does not flinch to kill anyone. His mouth is not wise too as it spurts out countless F-words and various other offences. Once you are about 15, this is a great movie to watch for anyone.
