I kind of hated this movie. I expected it to be very funny like Beverly Hills Chihuahua, but it was not. I only laughed a little. I wasted my parents money seeing this in the theater. My mom is happy she dropped us off and didn't have to watch it too. I liked the buttery popcorn, but I still think this would be better to watch on DVD at home or not at all. It really wasn't funny.
Perfect for pet-loving families (especially Great Dane owners)
I don't agree with the reviews that this is such a terrible movie.
If you are an dog lover you will love the humor. If you own a Great Dane you will appreciate the humor even more! My kids, ages 10 and 12 loved this movie and we laughed all the way through. I do like that there is a positive message that family should matter more than success and money!
When I go see a movie like this I don't expect it to be serious or realistic. If you are a pet-loving family I recommend you see this one. It's silly, cute and funny, like it is supposed to be.
It's good, but they use words like "shut up" and it's related to the strip and features the O.C. and it's music video, but there's also mentionings of PetCo and a fake dog food company too.
America's favorite Great Dane is more "O.C." than "Lassie."
This movie is funny but I saw some dogs kissing each other in the lips a few scenes in this movie, Marmaduke has a crush on a female dog and tries to love her, words like "donkey," "horse," "losers," "stupid mutts," "freak," "gargantuan spas," and more. Also, one or two uses of "God" as an exclamation. Alcohol and drugs were in this movie, there was a party and all dogs and humans would get drunk and smoke in some parts, and there is consumerism and a dog growled at Marmaduke during a thunderstorm once in this movie, but I like the messages and the role models. This movie is pretty good.
I took my 4, 6 and 7 year old to see this and was cringing at the amount of potty talk and name calling. There were a few laughs but the intense scenes towards the end pretty well ruined it for my kids. Overall, I really regretted seeing this.
I took my 3 sons to see Marmaduke at the drive-in not expecting much. My baby slept through the movie; however, my 2 year old and 8 year old loved it. It has some crude humor (fart jokes), but all in all it was a movie that was pretty mild and had a lot of laughs for kids and even a couple for the adults. Casting Owen Wilson gave a familiar voice as my 2 year old Lightning McQueen. He watched the whole movie which held his intrest even though he hadn't had a nap.
Great movie. There are a few scenes where the 'bad' dogs insult Marmaduke mildly, and one scene where one of the dogs angrily chases Marmaduke, but he gets away before there is any violence. A few mild flirts between Marmaduke and his dog girlfriend. Great messages though. Marmaduke ends up leaving his friends to be with the 'popular' dogs, and in the end learns that being with friends is better than just being popular. There is also one scene where a road crumbles and Marmaduke and his girlfriend fall into the sewer. This may be frightening for young kids, but in the end they are both rescued. Overall a great movie.
If you own a Great Dane you will definitely laugh at this movie!! Until you have owned a large dane you might not believe some of it is even possible. It is about a teenage dog so there are good and bad choices. The bad choices Marmaduke makes have consequences and he learns from them. There are a lot of positive messages concerning family, friends you choose, and peer pressure. There is some name calling between dogs, but it is just silly stuff like "loser, stupid mutt, freak, horse". In the end they all realize that their family and being truthful are what is most important. Overall it is a cute, goofy, fun, & lighthearted movie!
