What's the Story?
Based on the best-selling picture book by Sam McBratney, GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU brings the world of Little Nutbrown Hare to life for preschoolers. Set amid the bucolic rolling hills and grassy fields of the Hare family's home, the stories take shape as Little Nutbrown Hare (voiced by Matthew Jacob Wayne) and his friends Little Grey Squirrel (Stuart Allan) and Little Field Mouse (Allie Carlton) explore their surroundings and learn about nature, listen to stories from Little White Owl (Michaela Dean), and make new discoveries about their world and themselves. No matter what new adventures mark each day, though, each evening finds the little rabbit drifting off to sleep in his father's arms, secure in the knowledge of Big Nutbrown Hare's (Kirk Thornton) love for him.
Is It Any Good?
This series will have immediate appeal for anyone who's been touched by McBratney's stirring words in his classic story about the love between parent and child. Happily, Guess How Much I Love You stays true to the book's watercolor-style animation, giving the impression that the characters have just hopped off the pages onto the screen. The show's unhurried pace and simple stories are a treat for both parents and preschoolers, which makes this a great option for cuddle time with your kid.
Of course, little of the show's emotional aspect will hit kids' radar; instead, they'll probably focus on the gentle characters and their adventures, which send them out into their world in search of answers to their many questions. "What does spring smell like?" "Why do the flowers bloom?" "Can I touch the stars?" No doubt your own preschoolers have their own set of such queries, and in Little Nutbrown Hare and his companions, they'll find kindred spirits for their virtual explorations of his world -- and, with your help, could be inspired to set off on real ones within their own community.
