What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this site promotes the cute banana character created by entertainer and Hollywood voice-over artist Debi Derryberry, most famously voice of Jimmy Neutron. The site won't win any educational accolades, but if your preschooler has seen one of Derryberry's live shows or is a fan of her award-winning CDs, or has read the Baby Banana book, they will likely enjoy checking out this site with you a time or two.

Educational value: There are a couple of interactive games (matching and a "catch the candy" game using your computer's arrow keys), a few coloring pages, one craft and a recipe but this site is not strongly educational, at least not yet. More content is promised "coming soon."
Positive messages: Derryberry's characters and storylines focus on "kindness, diversity, sharing, family and nature." Kids can submit drawings to be posted on the site.
Violence: Not applicable.
Sex: Not applicable.
Language: Not applicable.
Consumerism: This is, at its heart, a promo site for Debi Derryberry's new CD and book and her live shows. There's a store with CDs, the book , T shirts, a free ringtone, a free downloadable song when you join the fan club, as well as a place to watch her live show filmed at a school.

This is a cute site with a cute character created by someone who obviously loves entertaining children. Especially if your child is already familiar with Derryberry's live shows, CDs, or books, it's worth one visit. Print the coloring pages, play the two games and watch a couple of videos. But this won't be a site that gets a lot of repeat visits from most kids unless it get more interactive and less promotional.
