Why We Rated This on for Ages 4 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

The free online games, printables, craft ideas, and other content are well crafted and highly engaging for preschoolers who love Dora, Diego, Blue, and the other Nick Jr. TV characters. Lots of thinking -- but no reading -- required.
  • User-created content:

  • Messages:

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

    Not an issue.
  • Sex:

  • Language:

  • Consumerism:

Be ready for the onslaught of ads for everything from credit cards and cars to Polly Pockets and prescription medication. Nickelodeon also pushes its own products hard -- including its magazine, "premium" games, and mynoggin.com, its subscription-based educational site.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

How safe is it?

  • Personal privacy:

    Not an issue.
  • Online interaction:

  • Parental controls:

What Parents Need to Know

About NickJr

Parents need to know that this site is a top-notch play site for preschoolers and up, especially those who can't read just yet. It's also a go-to spot for parents looking for a quick rainy-day craft or birthday party theme ideas. Ads nearly overtake the content, and everything Nick-related is for sale and labeled "premium" over the free fare.

    A Child's Favorite Place

A great site for any child capable of using a computer. The games are very educational, and the messages set good morales for younger children. My only problem with this site is the massive amount of advertisements on each page, which can distract a child from the actual page contents he's searching for.
