Parents need to know that this site rates content from "E" (everyone) to "A" (adult). It's easy to find the adult stuff using keyword searches, including the seemingly innocuous tag "lemon" (it's really an anime code word for sex). Some of the "citrus" content includes fan fiction, in which (for example), there are fantasy sex scenes with Draco Malfoy. Pornography and sexually explicit content isn't supposed to be allowed. The official Web site policy says the list of excluded content includes "sex stories, pictures, movies, and graphic and explicit written depictions of sex. This also includes violent and graphic descriptions of rape and other assaults." Yet, at the time of review, the site featured numerous stories of this nature that included graphic sex, as well as incest and rape.
QUIZILLA offers teen-generated quizzes, stories, and poems. The subjects are heavy on the pop culture side, with a smattering of anime, fantasy, and dragons thrown in for good measure. Site visitors rate the user-submitted content, so it's easy to find the most popular and highest-rated material. You can also find topical content based on the "tags" (subject headings) teens assign to their submissions. To create quizzes of your own, you need to become a member. It's free, but you have to be at least 13. Members can also have their own online profiles and journals as well as contact each other.
A site aimed at teens is never going to be all sweetness and light, but this one doesn't even meet its own acceptable-content submission policy. Pornography and sexually explicit content isn't supposed to be allowed. The site's list of excluded content includes "sex stories, pictures, movies and graphic and explicit written depictions of sex. This also includes violent and graphic descriptions of rape and other assaults." Yet, at the time of review, numerous stories of this nature were on the site, some featuring graphic sex, as well as incest and rape. There is evidence that the site is policed for content that shouldn't be there, but the task of keeping up with all of the submissions (several thousand per day) is like one of the labors of Hercules.
To its credit, the site admits that its users "make and post quizzes and journals that discuss a wide range of very important and serious issues." Accordingly, it provides links to various sites on suicide prevention, eating disorders, sex education, and more.
