Parents need to know that this site is sponsored by Canada's public television broadcaster and is full of activities involving TVOKids' popular characters. Much like its original characters and TV content, the site's videos, games, and ways for kids to participate in activities are consistently constructive. Even the snowboarding game has an educational element to it. There's also a hotline where kids can call with issues they're stressed about, in addition to Webcasts and written segments about stressful issues such as bullying, divorce, moving. Some activities require reading and some have text with accompanying voice-overs, so kids from the younger set (preschool) may need assistance. Short videos provide clips or previews of TVO's television programming. No outside advertising is present and warnings are given if kids try to leave the site through links.
Come one, come all to TVOKIDS.COM a super kid-friendly and educationally focused Web site brought to us by Canada's public television broadcaster. There are more than 150 games to play, an online book club to join (with print out incentives), and loads of ways to participate with the site (ask questions, submit art, book reviews, and drawings).
This site is ultra-safe and even features an online game about Internet safety called Firewall!. Geared towards 6-9 year olds, kids must be able to read to play, but much can be learned through this slow moving, but challenging game made up of true or false questions about how to stay safe online. A great deal of TVOKids.com content includes characters from its TV series League of Super Citizens. These characters -- Atomic Guy, Fly Girl, Envirogirl, Nifty Girl, and Professor Atlas -- are do-gooders bursting with optimism and star in many games and videos on this site. The graphics are cool and fun, the games captivating, and educational. Overall, TVOKids.com does a fantastic job of providing good, clean online fun for kids.
Families can talk about all the ways kids can interact with TVOKids.com and what they might like to do together. There are opportunities for submitting art, science questions, and birthday cards that might be highlighted on the site. There's also a hotline where kids can call with issues they're stressed about and Webcasts and written segments about stressful issues. Kids, what stresses you out? What influences that stress? What are some things you can do when you feel overwhelmed?
