What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this site is run by Hachette Book Group, the publishers of the Twilight series. Because of this, be aware that there is a slew of promotion for the vampire franchise on the site, from the books to gift sets and companion readers. The site also features a social networking forum, very similar to sites like Facebook. Although there are strict guidelines for mannerly behavior, users who aren't old enough to join other social media, shouldn't become members of this site either.

  • The community is monitored for disrespectful comments and there appears to be an attempt to keep rabid fans at bay. The site's administration also is open to fan mail and messages to authors of Twilight books. There are also groups that allow members to share fan fiction, artwork, and poetry, which may give Twilight fans a good creative outlet.
  • Not applicable.
  • Members openly swoon about characters with comments like "I would let Edward Cullen bite me any day.
  • Posting guidelines insist on good manners and respect. Users who can't follow these rules risk a permanent ban. Because of this, users seem to keep their language in check.
  • This is the official site from the publishers of Twilight. But many users wouldn't know this just by visiting the site as its affiliation isn't clearly noted on the home page. Many of the publisher's Twilight-themed products are promoted here, but there is more to do on the site than just read ads.
  • Profiles have privacy settings so you can control who sees your content and allow just friends to see pictures and blogs. Similar to other social networking applications, this site uses a platform that collects data and customizes advertising to users. Members can expect ads to be tailored to reflect  their browsing habits on the site as well as the personal information they supply. There are no specific parental controls. To join however, visitors need to supply a birth-date and those under 13 are told they are ineligible for membership.. Of course, no proof of actual birth-date is needed, so this is an easy rule to skirt.

Is it any good?

Get as close to Edward and Bella as you can without visiting Forks, by stopping by the novel's official site. Here you can get the chance to communicate with authors and post your own fan fiction or just debate the finer points of the vampire love story. Created by the publishers of the Twilight saga, this site is the go-to destination for new products and author updates. But what Cullen fans will really enjoy is finding their own coven to chat with, as there are ample groups ripe for interaction, each focused on one of a nearly infinite number of Twilight niches.

Online interaction: This site is basically Facebook for Twilight fans. After creating a profile, members can make friends with other members, post pictures, videos and discussions. There are also groups to join, such as Team Bella or Team Jacob, which allow like-minded fans to discuss specific topics together.

Explore, discuss, enjoy

  • Families can talk about safe social networking habits. What information is OK to share with your online friends and what information is off-limits? What are some warning signs that someone you friended online is getting too personal?

  • Can you think of creative ways the Twilight franchise has been marketed? Is creating a social media site an effective way to market the brand to fans?

  • Families can also use kids' obsession with Twilight and New Moon as a starting point for discussing important relationship issues.

Good for Teens 14+. Anyone younger not suggested.
The Twilight Saga, in my opinion, isn't appropriate for anyone under 14 or 15. Especially Breaking Dawn, the final book, due to the vivid imaginations of younger children and the sexual content.

Great site; nothing offensive
A very nice Twilight site, with discussion boards and similar fun things. All discussion boards are heavily monitored, and the site allows members to be creative, promotes educational reading, encourages general respect towards others, and has no real safety issues (personal information is not allowed anywhere on the site). There's obviously going to be a lot of advertising for Twilight Saga books and movies, but that's exactly why people are going to register for it. It's an overall great site for Twilight fans, so I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Not for younger kids
Not a big fan of this site for younger kids. The site members have a tendency to ostracize newer / younger members through the open message boards. There is little control to what it said.

great 4 teens
I loved the twilight saga, but I wouldnt let kids under 13 read it mostly because the sexual content in the last book, and the disscusion about having sex in Eclipse. Also its pretty violent and can be scary for younger kids.

Ghastly.
Hate it. I found the moderators actually had found the users on other social networking sites and had spies to feed them information through these sites. It was overall a completely enjoyable experience.
