Why We Rated This on for Ages 13 and Up

The good stuff

  • Educational value:

    Not an issue.
  • User-created content:

    Not an issue.
  • Messages:

The overall message fosters a positive, fan-centric community and may inspire kids to read the books.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Video clips include some intense scenes, such as when Jasper lunges for Bella and when Bella is attacked by Laurent. These scenes are just short snippets, but might be too intense for younger siblings of Twilight fans.
  • Sex:

Trailers include a few close-ups of Bella and Edward kissing, plus many scenes with a shirtless Jacob and his werewolf friends.
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

The site is designed to be a promotion for the movie, so there are many instances where the film is marketed, such as a video interview with Taylor Lautner who says things like "New Moon is going to be stepped up a whole other notch...I think the fans are really gonna be happy." There is also a link to the official Twilight store on Amazon.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

How safe is it?

  • Personal privacy:

    Not an issue.
  • Online interaction:

    Not an issue.
  • Parental controls:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About The Twilight Saga: New Moon: Official Movie Site

Parents need to know that the official site for the latest Twilight flick, New Moon, doesn't contain any content that fans of the books or movies haven't already seen. The site's main goal is to promote the movie and this is done with video clips, downloads and interactive information. The visually-driven site doesn't offer any room for fans to interact with each other, but there are links to popular fan sites. There are also plans for mobile content, so watch out for added cell phone charges when this feature goes live.

as long as the kids now the difference between reality and fiction they will be good,

my kids watched the trailer and they cannot wait to watch the movie cause of the vamps and now it will be the wolves. I think it is a good family movie thus far. Red the books and come the 3rd movie it will be more of a watch then decide.

I rate this title on for age 7 and give it 3.0
    My concerns are:
    • Excessive consumerism

    Fine

Nothing offensive here, but Twilight fans will probably want to use in-depth fansites and not the dry official site.
