Common Sense Note

Parents should be aware that this film begins and ends with simulated sperm seeking out their egg destination. The film also deals with a child born out of wedlock as the result of an adulterous affair with a client. There is some heavy petting and the occassional poop joke.

Families who watch this film may want to talk about who it's intended for. What parts were for kids and what's for adults? Do you think this is a kid's movie? Why or why not?

Common Sense Review

Reviewed By: Kelly Kessler

LOOK WHO'S TALKING chronicles the unlikely love affair of Molly (Kirstie Alley), a CPA, and taxi driver, James (John Travolta). After finding herself pregnant with the child of her married client Albert (George Segal), Molly sets out to find Mikey (vocalized by Bruce Willis) the "best daddy." She makes a deal, whereby James will serve as her babysitter and then finds herself conflicted. Should she wait around for a hotshot Mr. Right or take a chance with the dashing and exciting (but poor) James. He's a dreamer, but according to Mikey's musings, he is surely a keeper.

Look Who's Talking proved that Americans love talking babies and served as a springboard for Travolta's first comeback (the second being Pulp Fiction. While silly, the film stands the test of time and includes underappreciated performances by veteran Abe Vigoda (The Godfather, Barney Miller) as James's senile grandpa and Academy Award Winner Olympia Dukakis (Moonstruck, Tales of the City) as Molly's wisecracking mother. Look Who's Talking also includes a fabulous 1960s/1970s soundtrack that gives Travolta ample opportunity to throw in come classic dance moves. Look Who's Talking went on to produce two less successful sequels, Look Who's Talking, Too and Look Who's Talking Now. Apparently, additional talking babies and talking pets did not have the same appeal as a toddling Bruce Willis, but families should surely tune in to check out the first film of the series.

This is much superior to a more recent baby talking films Baby Geniuses and Super Babies: Babies Geniuses 2.
