More bloody mayhem from Jigsaw; not for kids.

Why We Rated This not for kids

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Devious death designer Jigsaw (John) preaches against vengance, insisting that he teaches "lessons," but he's a murderer, no matter what he says.
  • Violence:

Incessant torture, pain, and blood. Torture implements include saws (circular and hack), mechanical devices, hooks, chains, guns, knives, explosives, freezer, a limb/neck-breaking machine; victims are bound and gagged, ripped apart by machines, exploded, sliced, frozen, suffocated by plastic bag, shot, impaled, and nearly drowned in pulverized pig (gloppy, disgusting substance); Amanda cuts herself on her thigh (and in a flashback, you see that she cut herself habitually); a doctor performs brain surgery (graphic, using drill and saw); victims are abruptly grabbed by hooded/masked figure; flashbacks to a little boy on his bike hit by car (still photos); flashback shows Eric (from Saw II) sawing/slamming off his own foot, then attacking Amanda (punching, slamming with board) and calling her names.
  • Sex:

Kerry appears in the tub (body visible from the shoulders up); brief scene of adulterers in the same bedroom; woman victim hangs by her arms, chained to a freezer ceiling: she's nude, and you see several full-frontal shots (everything is visible).
  • Language:

Repeated uses of "f--k" (35+), in addition to other profanity (one use of "c--t," a few instances of "s--t," "damn," and "hell").
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

Lynn pops anti-depressant pills; in a flashback, Eric calls Amanda a "junkie bitch" (though you don't see instances of her addiction in this installment).

What Parents Need to Know

About Saw III

Parents need to know that this horror sequel isn't for kids, though plenty of gore-loving teens will probably want to see it. Like its predecessors, it follows a series of characters trapped in terrible, torturous situations. Characters meet gruesome, bloody ends: suffocation, freezing, being shot through the neck, being pulled apart while attached to hooks and chains, neck and limbs being twisted and broken, and even a head exploding. One character performs graphic brain surgery, and another -- who's emotionally tormented -- cuts her own thigh. Repeated references to a 6-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a drunk driver. A woman appears getting out of bed (post-sex) with a man; another is shown hanging by her arms, completely naked (full frontal). A doctor pops anti-depressants and appears dazed while working on a little boy in the ER. Profanity includes 35+ uses of "f--k."

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about John/Jigsaw's seeming "lesson" -- that revenge doesn't stop pain or guilt, but only prolongs it. How does Jigsaw judge his victims in order to rationalize his cruelty? How can you apply his lesson to other, less sensationally violent situations? What are other options besides "getting even" with someone who wronged you? How do you see Amanda's devotion to John? Is it possible for her to "love" him? How does her inability to learn John's "lesson" mark her inability to forgive or love anyone?

    If you kid is mature....

I saw this when It came out. It depends if you think your child can handle it. I think if your childs mature and 14+ there isn't much more than TONS of gore, language, and a scene of a girl nude. But I think by the time your 14 you know what breasts and vagina looks like.

I personally don't why anyone could enjoy this torture. Why are 14 year olds watching it? I have never seen it.

This Series Has Been Wrecked: SAW III - Director's Cut

Just "blecch" with a side of "yuck"... this film just was terrible. This movie is garbage. Torture and disgusting acts throughout the movie, enough to make the biggest horror buff feel uneasy and naucious. Things to watch out for: An innocent woman is strung up by her wrists from the ceiling completely naked (full-frontal nudity) and tortured by being drenched in ice water inside a meet freezer until she dies, a teenager has to tear large metal rings from his bones and flesh and then explodes by a bomb, a woman has large metal spikes screwed into her ribs and is ripped apart by the spring-loaded trap spilling her organs to the floor and in the same scene her hand is burned by acid, two graphic surgery sequences are shown (one on a small boy's trechia and the next on an old man's brain), a man is deathly ill and has violent and bloody seizures, a man has pig guts spilled on top of him while he is chained to the floor, a young girl cuts her inner thighs and the palms of her hands for enjoyment, a man who is chained up is smothered with plastic wrap, a man is strapped to a machine and his arms and legs and neck are snapped by the moving machinary, a man has half his face shot off with a shotgun, a man breaks all of the bones in his foot and ankle on screen, a woman and a man get into a realistic hand-to-hand battle resulting in broken bones and gore, a woman's head is blown off by shotgun shells, a woman is shot in the jugular vein, a man's neck is slashed with a power tool, and a child is kidnapped with no resolution implying that she will die soon. Language is strong and vulgar throughout. The entire movie is very unsettling and graphic. It took me three attempts to sit through the entire thing. It is on DVD in its original NC-17 form (under the title Director's Cut). Ages 17+ only. 2/5 stars. If you enjoy... well, you're just something else. That's all I have to say.

saw round 3 is still confusing bizzare gory and better

saw3 is definetly the most violent of the first 3 but it's not the worst only because saw 2 had no real morel ulike this one however this film is definetly violent far more than the first one but it still has what made the first one good an interesting story and gory violence

    The Best in the franchise!

What more is there to say, sure, none of the saw movies are for kids, but while adding more of the blood and gore that hardcore fanatics of this seris (like myself) have come to know and love, the plotline adds a great emotional twist to the seris, loved it! Plus, Shawnee Smith (Amanda) is HOT!

Saw III is a mixed bag at best, even for the die hard Saw fans

I have seen every Saw film and I am a huge fan. Saw III is a mixed bag at best. There are some good outcomes with the sequel, on the other hand, we have some negative outcomes. Saw III is about poor, sick Jigsaw who needs extra care so he doesn't die. The people try taking good care of him, while people are still being tortured by the infamous Jigsaw and the traps. There is definitely more dialogue then gore. This one felt the least gory in the series for the matter of the fact that the last forty-five minutes is just dialogue. For sexual content there is a full frontal chick (non-sexual) and is hung from a bar, which is obviously a trap. In one trap a guy is wearing only boxers. A character calls another female character word the c word. For violence/gore the film is definitely bloody and very gory. Many violent traps throughout. Not for the people with weak stomachs. Profanity, is very high. There are about 36+ f words, scatological terms, anatomical terms, mild obscenities, name-calling, some sexual terms are uttered.

great and yuck at the same time

this movie has great graphics and NOT FOR KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The movie has nudity, people being toreucher, and the toretucher is terrible. Peoples rib cages are riped open, people cut off there own feet, peoples limbs are twisted and the person who's limbs are twisted at the end his head dose a 360 and it's snaps his neck. The worst seen in the movie is when jigsaw gets brain surgery and his and the tools they use are a drill and a pizza cutter. And theres so much gore . As you can see its not for kids but it's worth watching

    Saw it once, never again!!!

Gory, Gaphic, not at all for kids or adults who want to watch a scary movie, it wasn't scary at all, just graphically gory and disguisting. Parents who rated this movie ok for 13 year olds and up have got to be crazy, my mom lets me watch about w/e as long as i make a good choice and i tell u this was not a good choice. Parents have to be morally sick to let there kids watch this. Sorry to parents. Pahlease follow my advice. don't waste your morallity by watching this.

    Gore....gore.....and more gore.

I really did have my hopes that Saw would be a little more story lesson like than gory scenes after gory scenes.I did like the ending though and how it connects to Saw 4.
