Care Bears: Adventures in Care-A-Lot - TV-Y7
Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that the cheerful bears in this cartoon series (a new take on the classic '80s characters) learn positive lessons about feelings and caring in each episode, including the importance of being a good friend, the value of honesty, and the fact that it's OK to ask for help when you need it. Kids will easily relate to storylines that illustrate how responsible youngsters resolve issues with friends and work together to ensure everyone's happiness. The only potential speedbump for very young viewers may be the stern, sometimes-menacing character Grizzle, who often causes trouble for the group.
Families can talk about feelings and how we express them. Kids: What kinds of things make you angry or upset? Are there particular things that your friends or siblings do that bother you? How does your mood change when your feelings are hurt? Do you talk to anyone about how you feel? Do you tell your friends what's bothering you? How else can people deal with feelings? How do you respond when a friend is feeling down? If you were a Care Bear, what would your special caring ability be?

Welcome to Care-A-Lot, the rainbow-bedecked town atop a floating cloud that's home to the lovable, huggable Care Bears. These colorful characters -- whom plenty of parents will remember from their original incarnation in the '80s -- are sure to delight a new generation of kids in CARE BEARS: ADVENTURES IN CARE-A-LOT.
The show focuses on the bears' escapades and highlights how each one shares his or her unique way of caring with friends. In each episode, Funshine, Oopsy, Cheer Bear, and their pals must work together to overcome a new stumbling block. Whether it's encouraging a stubborn Grumpy to ask for help when he needs it or making Share Bear feel better after she admits she broke a friend's toy, each Care Bear relies on his or her own special caring ability -- and their powerful belly badges -- to see each other through the ups and downs of life.
The friends must also join forces against the schemes of their nemesis, Grizzle, an oversized bear who lives on his own floating home and often causes trouble for the residents of Care-A-Lot. But fortunately for them, Grizzle's evil plots are no match for the bears' combined caring power -- and even he begrudgingly acknowledges the lessons everyone learns in friendship, morals, and respecting others' feelings.
Kids will easily relate to the troubles that arise among the Care Bears and may benefit from watching them resolve their differences with positive word choices and an understanding of others' feelings. And parents who do remember the cuddly characters from their own childhood will get an extra kick out of sharing this series with their kids.
All of that said, it's worth noting that very young viewers may find Grizzle's stern appearance and insistence on raising turmoil among the Care Bears a bit frightening and/or upsetting.
