What parents need to know

Parents need to know that the cheerful bears in this cartoon series learn positive lessons about feelings and caring, including the importance of being a good friend, the value of honesty, and the fact that it's OK to ask for help when you need it. Kids will relate to storylines that illustrate how responsible youngsters resolve issues with friends and work together to ensure everyone's happiness. A potential speed bump for very young viewers may be the stern, sometimes-menacing character Grizzle.

  • Storylines illustrate positive ways to express feelings and show caring for others. Characters learn lessons in friendship, honesty, and patience. Good always triumphs over bad.
  • Each Care Bear has a special caring ability that allows him or her to help others in a unique way. But the bears don't always do the right thing at first, leaving room for important lessons in friendship, respecting others, and morals. There's also an obvious villain named Grizzle who makes trouble for the Care-a-Lot gang, but even he learns a positive lesson from time to time.
  • No violence, but the bears' stern, scheming nemesis, Grizzle, may seem frightening to some youngsters.
  • Not applicable.

What's the story?

CARE BEARS: ADVENTURES IN CARE-A-LOT -- an updated version of the '80s show -- focuses on the colorful bears' escapades and highlights how each one shares his or her unique way of caring with friends. Each Care Bear relies on his or her own special caring ability -- and their powerful belly badges -- to see each other through the ups and downs of life. The friends must also join forces against the schemes of their nemesis, Grizzle, an oversized bear who often causes trouble for the residents of Care-A-Lot. But fortunately for them, Grizzle's evil plots are no match for the bears' combined caring power -- and even he begrudgingly acknowledges the lessons everyone learns in friendship, morals, and respecting others' feelings.

Is it any good?

Kids will easily relate to the troubles that arise among the Care Bears and may benefit from watching them resolve their differences with positive word choices and an understanding of others' feelings. And parents who remember the cuddly characters from their own childhood will get an extra kick out of sharing this series with their kids. All of that said, it's worth noting that very young viewers may find Grizzle's stern appearance and insistence on raising turmoil among the Care Bears a bit frightening and/or upsetting.

What families can talk about

Families can talk about feelings and how we express them. What kinds of things make you angry? How does your mood change when your feelings are hurt? Do you talk to anyone about how you feel? How else can people deal with feelings? How do you respond when a friend is feeling down? If you were a Care Bear, what would your special caring ability be?

Great show for toddlers
My toddlers love Care Bears - old and new. We are all excited about this new version. There is a little bit of danger/violence,but it is appropriate for their age level. They love it. It helpsthe children learn about different issues they face. This episode deals with fear of unknown things. We discuss this after the show. Having examples they have seen really helps teach these issues.

cute show primarily
It is warm and friendly and children of older ages should be encouraged to think about the consequences and behavior messages.

Very underrated.
I love this show. I haven't seen any episode so far with the sound on aside from the intro but this is a very cute show. I was concerned at first when i saw viewers on YouTube and iMDB saying that they hate this show. Don't listen to everybody saying this is the worst show ever. This show may seem like it's bad but it does have its fans. And it's rated TV-Y so let your children watch it. You can watch the old Care Bears as much as you want, but you can watch this too. If you like the old Care Bears then you will love this. On for all ages over 2.
