What parents need to know

Parents need to know that some of the antics in this reality show make The Osbournes look like The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. The Kardashian brood includes a 20-something with aspirations to pose in Playboy and a tween who instinctively knows how to work a stripper pole. Alcohol is a staple of many family gatherings, and while only those of age are shown imbibing (the tweens just mix the drinks...), impressionable young eyes aren't exactly shielded from the hard-partying lifestyle. Plenty of language, too, though the strongest words (including "f--k") are bleeped.

Positive messages: Family bonds run strong, but partying and other iffy behavior usually trumps anything more heartwarming when it comes to messages.
Positive role models: Although this nontraditional family is far from perfect, they do show
genuine moments of caring and camaraderie. The parents are quick to put
a stop to inappropriate behavior by the younger children (pole dancing,
drink mixing, etc.)
Violence: Siblings sometimes resort to screaming at each other to solve problems, but physical violence is rare.
Sex: One family member is somewhat infamous for starring in a "sex tape" that went public. Others are shown wearing clothes that barely cover their assets, posing for Playboy (which is encouraged as a career booster), and dancing on a stripper pole that was installed in the family home (the younger sibs like to "play" on it, too; it's clear they know what they're doing). Bare body parts occasionally pop up but are always blurred out. The younger sisters are around for their older siblings' escapades and are influenced by them. For example, in one episode, one of the younger girls imitated Girls Gone Wild (not showing anything, but acting it out) while her older brother's 20-ish friend filmed her with a video camera. Her parents found out and were upset, but no consequences were shown.
Language: Low-level swearing like "ass," "bitch," and "whore" flies freely among family members -- and so do bleeped F-bombs.
Consumerism: Name-dropping, cross-promotion, and materialism run rampant. Mentions of The Tyra Banks Show and the Pussycat Dolls; spotlight on brands like Corona beer, in addition to various wines and liquors; etc.
Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Cast members are occasionally shown smoking and drinking to excess. In one episode, a mother and her over-21 daughter are shown getting drunk together, while two underage tweens are shown mixing cocktails for adults.

What to talk about

Talk to your kids
  • Families can talk about the fine line between being a parent and being a friend.
  • Parents: Is it possible to have fun with your kids but also be able to step in and discipline them when necessary?
  • Kids: Do you ever wish your parents were less strict with you about certain things like bedtimes and curfews? Why do you think moms and dads set limits for their kids? And do you think having boundaries is a good thing, or is it just something parents do to annoy you?

What's the story?

What's the story?

Produced by Ryan Seacrest, KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS chronicles the frantic lives of the Kardashian/Jenner clan, a blended family composed of Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner; his wife, Kris; and their mixed brood of spoiled children. The three oldest daughters -- Kourtney, Khloe, and Kim (who's positioned as the star of the show) -- are the daughters of the late Robert Kardashian, the defense attorney who infamously came to O.J. Simpson's aid in the wake of Nicole Simpson's murder.

Is it any good?

Is it any good?

Just when you thought it might be safe to channel surf, E! unleashed Keeping Up with the Kardashians, yet another mindless reality series about a privileged family clamoring for their 15 minutes of televised fame. As far as families go, the Kardashians are kind of like the Brady Bunch on crack, and viewers may find themselves asking two very important questions: Why do they deserve their own show, and what the heck happened to Jenner? Once a celebrated athlete, here he's essentially reduced to the role of a put-upon father with a freakishly smooth face who appears to have lost control of his family. It's easy to feel sorry for him until you remember that, as a parent, he's part of the problem.

For diehard fans of reality TV, Keeping Up with the Kardashians is a fine way to while away 30 minutes. But it's a terrible show to watch with young children. At best, they'll be exposed to binge drinking, stripper poles, and rampant materialism. At worst, they may start emulating what they see.

Kim has a pretty bad public image because of her bad decisions, but throughout most episodes there are good role models. The messages are good, but the show itself isn't great for kids under 9.Well I guess its 30% iffy for kids 10-11,but most of it is ok.The iffy parts are pretty inappropriate but the good part is the GREAT MESSAGES!

Great Show for Moms with Talented Daughters
I am a big fan of this show. I love Bruce and all the women and girls. In today's world it is hard to raise children and no one has all the answers. Most people think that if I had more money, or time, or more help, etc. That they would have it all. It's nice to see that even the Rich and Famous struggle through life. And I admire this family for having their battles but, in the end pulling together as one.

You Can Read Plenty of Good Books with the Time This Rubbish Wastes
I had the misfortune of being subjected to a few episodes of this excuse for trash (I think it is THAT bad). I felt my IQ points dropping as the show went on. It is so retarded I consider Teletubbies to be more intelligent! It is called reality TV, but nothing in it is real--for a normal family anyway. Why people swarm to this hideous creation of greed and commercialism baffles me. It is stupid, it brainwashes you, it should have been aborted at the conceptual stage.Go and watch something good, pull out some of your old TV series. Lucky there have been plenty, because I don't think TV production is coming out from its creative trough for a long time--they are still digging deeper.

Best Reality Show on TV.
This is the only reality show I watch ever. I love the Kardashians and even my three year old sister sits there and watches Kim, Khole, and Kort with me. And when Khole laughed on the show last time she laughed at the same time. I just thought that was so so cute. Yes there is some laguage and a little violence but, there are also some good role modles like Kim Kardashian. Kim is the only one of the family who doesn't drink and she takes her work very serioulsy and she loves what she does. So I think that Keeping up with the Kardasians is the best reailty show on tv and even if you hate The Hills or things like that you will love this.

Change the chanell
These girls have no respect for their parents or themselves. I would not want my children to grow up being as self involved and shallow as they all appear. These girls lack intelligence and send a message it's ok to sell yourself for money and fame.

Yikes!
Poor Bruce Jenner looks like he was thrown into a house of horrors, and doesn't know how to get out. Keeping Up With The Kardashians is strange, and not in a good way. Kim, Khloe and Kourtney's only talents seems to be shaking their booty in everyone's face and being overbearing to everyone who comes in contact with them. A 1 hour special on Bruce Jenner's life I'll watch. Up With The Kardashians is not worth your time.

Everyday Life.
the language is a little much but is always bleeped out.. that's the only bad thing about this show.. there are a lot of positive messages because the main Kardashian; Kim, has been through a lot in the past but always works around it to avoid a bad reputation.. people say it's bad for kids to watch this but i'm 14 and i watch this and i have no problems with it, all the issues are things that happen in everyday life; drinking, birth, death. enjoy:)))

Not appropiate for the younger audience it appeals to (25-) 26+.
This Show is so Boring & Overrated. Off for Ages 24 & Younger, Caution for Age 25, & Personially, I don't Recommend this show for Any Age but, if you're gonna watch this show, at least be 26 years of age or Older (Just to make fun of them). The Kardashians should be better role models (especially to the young viewers 25 & younger). Honestly, No Offense, but the Kardashians are so Overrated. They don't deserve all this Money & Fame because, they're very rude & unprofessional because they swear constantly & 1 of the girls had a bad tape they are bad role models. Just by the title alone, (Keeping up with the Kardashians), I already hate this show because, they're selfish, thinking that they're better than eveybody else when they're not. They look down to their fans. What do they think, they're better than me, they're NOT better than me, I'm so much Better & Smarter than they are & i'm only a Little Child that's younger than 12 years of age. The sad thing is that I would even pick the Brady Bunch over this Unprofessinal & Overrated Show & I'm not even crazy about the Brady Bunch either but, at least the Brady Bunch family are not a bunch of selfish snobs, unlike the Kardashians are. Reasons why I don't recommend this show becasue, They think they are better than everybody else, they are very rude, selfish, &, unprofessional, & they're bad role models to their young fans (25 & younger).

Some People...
The bad thing about this show is that you always want to know what will happen next. This family is very trashy and allows it too, the mother needs to take up some ownership and responsibility of her own and not just go with her gut. Bruce needs to stand up for himself or get a divorce because this is not good for his rep. Kim, since she is the "diva", get a REAL LIFE!!! i mean who has time to make a sex tape!?!? Kourtney claims to be the mature one...no she's not!! She has her own opinion but doesn't really do anything about it. Plus, she's trashy. Kloe needs a life besides cursing and criticizing other people. To sum it up its an entertaining show just a really bad influence on people.

Love the Kardashians and thei show. Not bad for kids and even thought they aren't the best role models but, kids can learn the importance of family from the three sisters.

HOW SAD
I HEARD SO MUCH TALK ABOUT THIS SHOW I HAD TO WATCH IT. WOW....WHAT A MESS. THE KIDS HAVE LITTLE TO NO RESPECT FOR THEMSELVES OR THEIR PARENTS. I HOPE THIS ISN'T A TRUE REPRESENTATION OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED NORMAL FAMILY LIFE. I WATCHED THE EPISODE WITH THE STRIPPER POLE AND IT AMAZED ME HOW THE YOUNGER SISTER WORKED IT LIKE A PRO...HMMMMMM...SAD TO SAY THE LEAST!! I GUESS ALL ONE NEEDS IS A BIG BACKSIDE AND ENOUGH MONEY. BEAUTY IS TRULY ONLY SKIN DEEP...THAT'S ABOUT AS FAR AS IT'S MAKING IT WITH THIS DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY.

This show is insane!!!!
I cannot believe these people have their own show, for what? What are they actually talented for--being trashy.... It is like watching a train wreck--you want to look away, but you must see what happens next just to see how crazy it is. I am sorry, I am usually not one to judge, but these people are really making a mockery out of their lives and they seem to not care one bit. Come on people, who allows their 10-year-old daughters to dance on a stripper pole? We have got to get some morals in this country and this show is sure NOT the step in the right direction!

Great show...Watch with your Kids!!!
Such A great show for kids 11-12 and up. Why? Because on most episodes, it is appropriate. There is some language here and there but they "bleep" it out. In SOME episodes, they go to a bar and drink and Kourtney and Scott's behavior is not appropriate. And Scott has had some problems in the past with drinking but now he is fine and going to a therapist. Yes, and Khloe sometimes mentions inappropriate things. But, hey, they are 28+ and not like 16. They are adults. Adults can have fun as well!!
