    Not Recommended

User content is supposed to be monitored but IMVU Inc. allows users to determine what should and should not be in their catalogue. Often this leads to content that is vastly inappropriate for those under 18. IMVU also promotes products they have created or are promoting for other partner businesses which have not been properly reviewed and are also not appropriate for under 18 years of age. In addition to the inappropriate content, there are actions and activities that are defaulted to the avatars which are not appropriate behavior for under 18 users. Many misrepresent their age as well and there have been many 12 year olds posing at 18 + to be able to purchase these unsuitable items. It is best if you do choose to allow your child on here to ensure you know what their home page is like, what their account information is to check on them and to ensure you do not let them on there without supervision.

    Useless, Immature and Unfair.

I used this site from the time I was 10 until I was 15. Its as immature as middle school and there are tons of older men trolling for younger kids. Most people lie about their age. Really, you might as well send your kids into yahoo chat rooms, because they're just as safe. Some adult content is purposely mislabeled by creators and kids can access furniture that has sexual poses, clothes that look like nude body parts and suggestive motions. Content creators are ripped off more often than not (not something you want to happen to your kids after their hard work, and trust me, the 3D modelling program isn't easy to use) because the free promo credits all avatars start out with are the major currency flow in game and aren't actually given to creators for their products, they just dissapear when avatars use them. Being 20 years old, I can't believe I wasted my time...

    What a rubbish opinion

IMVU is a wonderful site, I met loads of friends on it that are now very close to my heart. As for those daft comments about getting AP for raunchy and explicit reasons, that is gumph. I got AP so I could make a public chat room, you can only do this by getting AP or VIP. If you want to see my lovely and innocent HP on it then I'm called RoseMistShadow. Feel free to look.

    It's extremely boring

I've been a member for a few years but have found myself enjoying it less. Initially, I joined as part of a 14 person sign-up of real life, personal friends who happen to be 3D content creator/developers for the movie studios and the gaming industries. In Spring 2007, IMVU got an Unsatisfactory BBB rating due to how poorly it treats members' actual and virtual content. Billing disputes were the name of the game - I gave up and let them steal my $70+ overcharge for stuff not bought and sales of my products they never credited my account for. Kids sneaking into the adults chats has become a huge problem when they opened up Public Sex Chat Rooms in late 2007 around the time the founder quit and the capital venture guys who own the place sent in a new management team. There are easy technological ways to handle such adult - teen issues as Second Life has shown us by firewalling the two communities with separate, non-interactive servers. But noo... . IMVU won't listen to common sense. I'm the only one of my real life friends left out our original 14 person join-up three years ago. There's no harmony amongst members and amongst staff as well. Most of the top quality developers have left to greener pastures, so the overall quality of the virtual catalog has plummeted like a stone. And the current EULA and TOS are an MBA case-study in corporate buffoonery. Oh, and they don't even post recommended system requirements - that's because IMVU requires substantially more expensive hardware and software to run its 3D graphics than 95 out of 100 Americans own. Naturally - IMVU doesn't wish to scare away new members with this detail. In sum, I doubt they'll stay in business much longer. IMVU really lives in its own world and it's a tiny world to which their members and their industry can no longer relate.

    Lets Play Dress UP?

The only thing i found good about IMVU is the amount of options to dressing your 'cartoon/doll'. You can express your self on IMVU is a large or small fashion, If one is shy they have no worries on being in public rooms and such unless they wish to be, If someone is very open and Social, they have many options to get their name out there. Sad to say though, there is MUCH Drama between the teens and even the Developers on IMVU. It is like HollyWood Drama in fact. If you are happy with minding your own , or even getting in the mix of others messes IMVU is a place to be. Be careful to not get so involved you forget wht REAL life is. *cheers*

Do not rate something that you've used for a week or so

I'm a developer on IMVU and have been there since around 2 years. To acces the mature content products you have to have atleast 18 and the so called Acess Pass that costs $20. I know that a lot of kids sign up there simply to explore in a way "sexuality". The staff is trying to "fix" things regarding comments as the starting one in here but those compromises cost developers as me not just their time but also money...yes I earn money from IMVU and pay some of my college needs and etc.No normal adult would go tell a kid in a chat now to jump on something and also if the kids feels disturbed by him/her it can always report and block him/her.For me IMVU's for all ages just not for all people regarding their immaturity.

    Unfit for minors period

Do you have a teenager using this site? I have seen enough to make me want to leave IMVU. I am a paying adult on this site. I have seen GROWN men and women solicit teenagers into 3D sexual chats, some of them joking openly about it on their page. If you are a parent and your teen is on this site--PLEASE stop them or monitor everything they do. Give yourself plenty of time to search around the site yourself, see what you come across.

    My experience of IMVU

I decided to try this after seeing an advert for this on myspace, and I wasn't that impressed. Although I came across a few nice people the majority of them where very horrible and rude or people who seemed to think it was real. Alot of people on it are after 'cyber' or just to upset people, and theres abit of a sleazy feel sometimes, so I wouldn't recommend it for under 16's. Theres users who have boy/girl friends and even get married on imvu, which I think is rather sad in my opion, as I get the impression they mustn't have a life outside the net. On a plus side its alright when you meet someone normal, you can customize your avatar and myspace style homepage, (but you have to pay for alot of features), however I felt the negatives outweighted the positives and deleted my account.

    Ignoring their Adult users

IMVU is alienating their adult users. While they do have the Access Pass, they have removed all items that an Adult would want to access. They are trying very hard to make the site a pg-13 site at the cost of their adult users. While there are a number of safeguards in place to protect children, IMVU has done all they can on this front, a parent should watch what their children are doing on the entire internet... Including this site.

Not for 13 - 16 year olds - unless very mature and world aware.

WOW! What can I say, so I think IMVU is a little too much for my age too. Don't get me wrong, it is a fabulous site, with many features. Being as old as I am I feel that I am able to deal with all sorts of people on the net. I feel that a vast majority of these people are just looking to 'cyber' and like any other chat sites that's what is the main agenda (of the people - not the site). Apart from a few people, the site itself is wonderful, there ARE many people who want to just have fun, or have the coolest things, or homepages, and there is a huge culture of younger girls collecting everything pink and cute. There is a system in place which IMVU is using to try and limit the amount of sexual content displayed to below 18(years) users. This is the mature/access pass. IMVU has a whole section for adults who wish to see nudity and buy raunchy things. You have to pay in real money to purchase this pass and must be over 18 years of age and so the access pass deters most youths from purchasing it. Also, sites displaying sexually explicit graphics are told to make there sites only viewable by accesspass users. IMVU is trying very hard to make itself safe, there are many ways to report and block users, and you can disable people from talking or leaving you messages on your page easily, it all depends on whether you use these features. Overall IMVU is a great site, allows a lot of creativity and there are a lot of groups and chances to be yourself. The credits issue - the credits are reasonably cheap to purchase, but may be non-obtainable if you don't have an internet bank account or a phone or a credit card.

Get your 11 year old daughter off the internet.

I have been reading the reviews and I noticed that everyone was complaining about the sexual content and innapropriate speech. I have also noticed that almost every review was from a child from the age of 11-13. To me they shouldn't even be on the internet unmonitered. They are still young, I mean im 16 but I'm very mature for my age. But what I'm saying is that young kids can easily attract a virus to your computer by not knowing what they are doing. And yes IMVU can be a little offensive but why is your 11 year old daughter on it? If you do not like your child on IMVU than you can block the side under parental controls. But instead you all want to rant and rave about IMVU being a very innapropriate site. That is your opinion, and the only way that you can see the innapropriate content is, like everyone has been saying, an access pass. You have to have access to a credit card and you have to be 18 years or older with a verefied account. I recommend that a child 14 years or older can play this game with no harm. If they are any younger they shouldn't even be able to type that well and this is a typing software. Us teenagers use it as a hobby, we can show off our virtual avatars and increase our social skills. Yes some people have boyfriends and girlfriends and even some married, but I dont see any harm in that. It's not unhealthy or wierd, sometimes people like your personallity more than your looks and IMVU can be that chance. I have noticed that IMVU was crowded with innapropriate content but know it has switched management and its undergoing alot of changes, and slowly but surely it is correcting all of the innapropriate products and behavior. This is a good past time and it can even get you into development, helping you educationally by teaching you 3d software and design. But I think i've taken up alot of your raving and ranting time and i'll let you go so you can let ur kids on the internet. Oh btw facebook and myspace is no different, people can still have "sexual conversations" with your kids. In conclusion QUIT giving IMVU a hard time. Its a great product and an addicting hobby. Thank you so much :)JessyJeter. Avatar name iKarnage.

If You Value Your Child's Innocence, Don't Let Them On This Site!

The way IMVU advertises itself (pictures of a male and female IMVU avatars in an erotic pose) is enough to convince you that this site is unacceptable for children and only those over 20 should view it. The site could easily be categorized under 'soft-porn'. It prides itself on being 'a site for everyone', yet has a feature were you can 'get naked' and also were you may, 'have sex'. Also, the security is very thin, and I found myself many times, being told by my computer to 'shut down the system immediately' why? Because 'hot4you453' was trying to track me down. So taking this into consideration... and also the fact that it gives you many viruses, do not, I repeat NOT let your children onto this site.

    Holy Crap!!!

Look, I loved the program when I was eleven, but it's a little racy...even for my disgustingly low-brow violent taste. Sex- You can get naked if you got an acess pass, and no filter, and skimpy non-AP outfits Violence- My character has a bloody ninja mask, a bloody dagger stuck in his chest, a couple of swords, and my large arsenal of guns. language-Swear it up, 'cuz there's not a filter in the game. You can get lottsa alchohol, and you can get some 'sigs. This game isn't ment for kids, and they're missing out on a 3D version of AIM, and it's boring. It's a simplified version of there . So, instead, go to there, the credits are cheaper in there anyway, with more features. ViVa La ThErE!!!

    From a frequent user.

Anyone under the age of 13 who wrote a review here was breaking IMVU terms of service by using the service. I have been on IMVU for almost a year and I find it a great creative outlet as a developer who makes clothing for IMVU's virtual avatars. People who write about the sexual content should now reconsider, a new system has been brought in to keep dirty content out of the genral audience catalog. The only way to get access to cyber sex is through buying an Acess Pass with your own creit card, under 18's are not allowed to purchase this. The main issue with IMVU now is copyrighted material illegally put up for sale in the catalog, so make sure before you let your kids onto the service that you talk to them about copyright laws and what can happen if you break them. Conversations can be eaisily monitered by pearents, by retriving the chat log from the IMVU file on your hardrive and pasing the garbled text into another notepad document. I would also suggest talking to your kids about what infomation you would or wouldn't want them to disclose and explain to them why. All in all IMVU is a great service for learning about other contries and making new friends and can also be a good creative outlet when you want to earn credits by desining virtual products.

This site is really fun! I love making my avatar and dressing it up! It is so much fun talking to other people and interacting with them! This site has some iffy content, and if you press the "chat now" button, you get conected to people randomly, and there are some people that are looking for online sex. Also, some of the public rooms are centered around sex and cirtian sexual orentations. If you buy the access pass, you can see the avatars naked. Over all, though, i would say that this site can be fun for ages 12+, if they dont abuse it.
