James P. Steyer, Founder and CEO of Common Sense Media, released the following statement in response to the federal court's ruling in favor of the FTC regarding in-app purchases:
"We are pleased to see the court uphold an important principle: that companies must be fully transparent with parents and kids, particularly about in-app purchases. While many apps appear to be free, in reality there is often a price to pay, which is rarely made clear. This is confusing for children, who can have trouble understanding when something in a game costs bars of imaginary gold versus real dollars. Yesterday's decision reaffirms the importance of being crystal clear with customers, and we commend the FTC for continuing to hold companies accountable for how they communicate with parents and kids."
