Los Angeles – Tonight, Common Sense Media, the national nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology, and the California Attorney General’s Office will hold a town hall about online child safety and privacy. “Tracked Everywhere: What Parents Need to Know About Protecting Kids Online” will bring parents and caregivers together with industry leaders at the Center for Early Education for an open discussion about online child safety, cyberbullying, and how kids’ information is being shared in a digital world.
Panelists and parents will discuss the current state of online child safety, cyberbullying, and the online tracking and profiling of kids, as well as the roles of parents, teachers, policymakers, law enforcement, and industry leaders in protecting kids online and on mobile platforms, now and in the future.
“Kids are being tracked online, and parents deserve to know the facts,” said James Steyer, CEO and founder, Common Sense Media, the host of the event. “This town hall is the second in our nationwide series of conversations with parents about the online tracking and profiling of kids and what parents think that industry and policymakers should be doing about it.”
In addition to Steyer, the panelists for tonight’s event include California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris, and Mandeep Dhillon, co-founder of Togetherville and vice president, Disney Interactive.
“Incidents of cyberbullying, child predation, and child exploitation are rising at alarming levels,” said Attorney General Harris. “I’m happy to be a part of this town hall discussion with Common Sense Media. It’s my hope that these discussions with parents will help us encourage parents, schools, policymakers, and law enforcement to make the protection of children online a top priority sooner rather than later.”
The moderator for tonight’s panel is Willow Bay, senior editor of The Huffington Post and special correspondent for Bloomberg TV.
