SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Common Sense Media, the national nonprofit dedicated to helping kids and families thrive in a world of media and technology, today launched its 1-to-1 Essentials Program – a roadmap of everything schools need to provide students with both technology and the digital citizenship skills they need to be successful with it.
"Tablets and computers are an integral component of a modern day education," said Jim Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense Media. "But rolling out a 1-to-1 program can be expensive and potentially risky unless administrators can assess school readiness, provide teacher support, articulate their vision across the entire school community, and empower students to be safe, smart, and responsible with technology." To that end, Common Sense Media has leveraged educators' experiences, advice, and lessons learned to develop the "go to" resource for educators creating a 1-to-1 learning environment in their school.
Segmented into three phases, the 1-to-1 Essentials Program outlines best practices for integrating tablets and computers into any K-12 school – whether it's a pilot program or whole-district initiative. The program includes interactive tools to create an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), measure school readiness for 1-to-1 adoption, inspire professional development, and discover the best apps for learning, as well as a Q&A production tool with 30 pre-populated questions, a student onboarding curriculum, and an education technology glossary to help cut through the industry lingo that surrounds a 1-to-1 rollout. The program is built on best practices from successful 1-to-1 educators and features assets that are customizable to each school’s distinct mission, culture, and goals.
