Huge Win For Kids With Defeat of Health Care Repeal Bill

Statement from James P. Steyer, Founder and CEO of Common Sense

"This is a huge victory for kids, families, and our economy but it is also a stark reminder of how important it is for the American people to voice their concerns at every turn to those who represent them in public office. This bill would have been a disaster for America's kids and families, as it would have increased insurance premiums, reduced the number of people with health insurance, and reduced protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

"Kids have always been particularly vulnerable in this fight and Common Sense is grateful to every parent and educator who called and emailed and visited their lawmakers, and we offer our thanks to Sen. Susan Collins, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Sen. John McCain and all Senate Democrats for defeating this bill. Our organization remains committed to preventing this bill from coming up again and to working, instead, to strengthen health care for all kids and families."
