SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 29, 2020) -- Common Sense released the following statement in response to recent news and events in the United States.

"Again and again, we find ourselves confronting tragedies that lay bare the racism and injustice facing our fellow Black Americans. In following the recent news, we are deeply saddened and outraged by the deaths of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and Ahmaud Arbery in Satilla Shores, as well as the racist intimidation of Christian Cooper in New York City.

"Racism and injustice are unacceptable, and we at Common Sense strongly believe in the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Importantly, we believe that progress on these seemingly insurmountable issues is possible and, in the context of our mission, that Common Sense has an ever more important role to play.

"Common Sense was founded as an organization that advocates for the well-being of all kids and families. No matter our race, we need to be strong advocates for racial justice and for the safety of all families. In order to ensure a future where all children thrive, we must all stand up for racial justice, support vulnerable communities, and hold our elected leaders accountable."
