Common Sense Applauds FCC Action to Modernize and Expand E-rate
Statement from Jim Steyer, Founder and CEO, Common Sense and Co-Chair, LEAD Commission
Common Sense CEO and Founder and Leading Education by Advancing Digital (LEAD) Commission Co-Chair Jim Steyer released the following statement today commending the Federal Communication Commission for adopting a robust plan to modernize and expand funding for the federal E-rate program.
"The FCC has taken important steps to make sure America's students have access to the high-speed Internet and technology that is needed for success in the classroom and beyond. Increasing E-rate funding to bring adequate high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi to classrooms and libraries throughout this country is an investment in our students' futures, our economy and our ability to compete globally."
Since 1997, the E-rate program has funded telecommunications services, including Internet connectivity, in schools and libraries across the country.
