Common Sense Kids Action Applauds Governor Jerry Brown For Signing Into Law Bill Expanding California's Paid Family Leave Program
Statement from James P. Steyer, Founder and CEO of Common Sense Media
San Francisco, CA – Today Common Sense Kids Action founder and CEO James P. Steyer released the following statement in reaction to Governor Jerry Brown signing into law AB 908 (by Assembly Members Jimmy Gomez and Autumn Burke), a bill expanding California's paid family leave program:
"We applaud Governor Brown for approving this expansion of California's Paid Family Leave program. Workers should be able to concentrate on what matters most—bonding with a new baby or caring for a seriously ill loved one—without risking severe financial hardship.
This bill will help kids in California by providing their working parents with greater economic security and opportunity to meet their obligations to their children and other family members. These enhanced protections are consistent with recommendations the Right Start Commission will announce on Wednesday when it releases its report."
AB 908 is the second bill signed into law that Common Sense Kids Action awarded with a "For Kids" rating in its new Common Sense Legislative Ratings initiative.
