Common Sense Kids Action Applauds Governor Jerry Brown for Signing Minimum Wage Bill Into Law
Statement from James P. Steyer, Founder and CEO of Common Sense Media
Today Common Sense Kids Action founder and CEO James P. Steyer released the following statement in reaction to Governor Jerry Brown's signing into law of SB 3 (Leno, de León, and Leyva), California's $15 minimum wage agreement:
"We applaud Governor Brown for signing into law the landmark $15 minimum wage agreement. His signature, and the Legislature's action last week, will help millions of kids, women, and families at a time when nearly half of all children in California live in or near poverty. Raising the minimum wage is one of the most effective ways to support California kids and make our state stronger – which is good for families and businesses. It is especially important for women, who make up nearly 60% of all minimum wage earners in the state, most of whom are the sole or co-breadwinner for their families."
SB 3 is the first bill signed into law that Common Sense Kids Action awarded with a "For Kids" rating in its new Common Sense Legislative Ratings initiative.
