SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 13, 2025—Common Sense Media today announced the addition of Airbnb Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Nathan Blecharczyk to its Board of Directors. Blecharczyk, who previously worked as a software engineer, brings three decades of technology expertise to the Board.

Blecharczyk founded Airbnb alongside Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia in 2007. The company has since grown into the world's largest online platform for short-term rentals, with hosts and guests in 220+ countries and regions around the world and welcoming more than 2 billion guest arrivals to date.

"Nathan's unique tech expertise at this moment in time will be critical to helping Common Sense Media continue to do everything possible to protect kids online," said Common Sense Media Founder and CEO James P. Steyer. "With his co-founders, he built one of the most beloved tech platforms in the world, and he's in a class of his own as a Silicon Valley leader who cares deeply about kids and families. Nathan's wealth of knowledge will be invaluable in supporting Common Sense Media's efforts to build the digital future our children deserve."

"As a technologist and parent who started coding at 12, I've seen both the great opportunities and real challenges that technology brings to families," said Blecharczyk. "I've been inspired by how Common Sense Media engages with policymakers to advocate for practical online safety guardrails. As today's technology grows more immersive, I hope that my background can help to define and advocate for common sense approaches to the technology challenges faced by children and parents."

At Airbnb, Blecharczyk has overseen initiatives to build trust in the platform and improve user safety, including overseeing the development and implementation of its global payment system, two-way blind review policy, and reservation screening technology. He and his wife, Elizabeth, a pediatrician, signed the Giving Pledge. Their philanthropic interests include maternal-child health, education, and medical research.
