SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4, 2025 — Ahead of Grandparents' Day on September 7, Common Sense Media announced its new "GrandAlliance," a national coalition of grandparents dedicated to building a safer digital future for their grandchildren.

As artificial intelligence and social media continue to transform how young people learn, grow, and relate to each other, ensuring these platforms are safe for kids has become the defining challenge of a generation. Empowering parents, caregivers, educators, and young people with the awareness and tools they need to navigate an ever-evolving digital landscape is critical, and with their collective wisdom, experience, and resources, grandparents have a critical role to play.

"For over two decades, Common Sense Media has been the leading voice for kids and families in the digital age," said Common Sense Media Co-CEO Ellen Pack. "But empowering families in a world of apps, algorithms, and AI can't end with kids and parents. By joining the GrandAlliance, grandparents have the chance to become leaders in creating the digital world that our kids and grandkids deserve to inherit."

GrandAlliance members directly support Common Sense Media's advocacy for state- and federal-level kids' online safety laws, the expansion of its new Digital Literacy & Well-Being Curriculum, and more.

"We all want our grandkids to be ready for the future, but we also have to ensure the future is ready for them," said Common Sense Media board member and GrandAlliance co-founder Diana Nelson. "The choices grandparents make today will guide the next generation for years to come. The GrandAlliance is a timely effort where grandparents and allies can respond with a sense of urgency to make sure kids' well-being is part of the progress equation."

"As technology continues to evolve at a breakneck pace, its effects on kids' lives can feel overwhelming, especially for adults who remember childhoods that looked completely different," said Common Sense Media New York Advisory Council co-chair and GrandAlliance co-founder Anne Stark. "At a time when it's easy for grandparents to wonder how they can make a difference, the GrandAlliance offers an opportunity for direct action by giving them the chance to lay the tracks on which their grandchildren's digital lives will run."
