Common Sense Media Welcomes Karla Martin as New President
New visionary leader with 30+ years of tech and strategy expertise joins the largest nonprofit championing kids' digital well-being
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 18, 2025—Common Sense Media is excited to announce that Karla Martin has joined as the organization's new president, bringing her exceptional leadership and deep commitment to empowering families. She assumes her duties this week, marking an important new chapter for the organization as it expands and bolsters its leadership team.
"Karla is an outstanding leader who combines strategic expertise with technological fluency and a genuine heart for our mission," said Common Sense Media Founder and CEO James P. Steyer. "Her track record of transforming organizations and her passion for protecting kids in the digital age make her the perfect partner as we expand our impact. We couldn't be more energized to have her on board."
With more than 30 years of executive leadership experience, Karla brings valuable expertise to the role, having led strategy and technology transformation as part of Deloitte, Google, and Booz Allen. Her expertise spans AI implementation, organizational scaling, and guiding organizations through periods of rapid technological change and growth.
"I'm delighted to join Common Sense Media at such a pivotal moment for kids and families," said Martin. "As AI fundamentally reshapes childhood, parents and educators need a trusted partner more than ever. I'm eager to work alongside this incredible team to expand our reach and ensure every child has the tools to thrive in our rapidly evolving digital world."
"Karla combines world-class operational expertise with a deep commitment to the work we do every day," said Common Sense Media Co-CEO Ellen Pack. "I look forward to her leadership guiding Common Sense Media through this next exciting stage of our growth."
A Detroit native from a family of educators, Karla brings both professional excellence and personal investment to her new role. After moving to San Francisco in 1992, she raised three children while building her remarkable career, an experience that gave her ground-level insight into how technology is fundamentally changing what it means to grow up and what it takes to keep kids safe online. She holds both a J.D. and an A.B. from Harvard University, and began her legal career as a senior law clerk to the Honorable Saundra Brown Armstrong before transitioning to the intersection of law, technology, and strategy.
