Today, founder and CEO of Common Sense James Steyer released the following statement:

"Apple's announcement today of new iOS features and functionality focused on digital health and well-being demonstrates to both consumers and the tech industry that it is possible to make tech products work better for all of us.

"With kids and teens spending as much as six to nine hours a day glued to their iPhones, these new features will go a long way in helping parents manage screen time, something we know they have been clamoring for.

"The simple management of notifications will reduce distraction and make it easier to remind kids to put their devices down. Protecting downtime -- especially sleep -- is very important, so expanding the functionality of Do Not Disturb is a positive step. And putting all the information and management tools into a screen-time dashboard gives parents the information and control they want and need.

"We commend Apple for joining the digital well-being movement and hope other tech and social media companies will do the same, as there's a lot more work to do. Kids' digital well-being has to be a top priority."
