Common Sense Supports Federal Funding for Research on Digital Media's Impact on Kids' Well-being

Today, founder and CEO of Common Sense James P. Steyer released the following statement after the introduction of bills in the U.S. House and Senate addressing the critical need for more research on the impact of digital media on children:

"Parents urgently need independent scientific research into the impacts on our kids of growing up online. Digital devices are constant companions in this digital age, but we don't understand the impact on child development, education, or overall well-being. Without good research, we are performing an unprecedented experiment on our kids. The CAMRA Act would require quality research into the digital health of America's kids and families. The well-being of children is non-partisan, and we commend leaders in the Senate and House for their bipartisan leadership on this issue impacting all American families."

In the Senate, Senators Ed Markey (D-Mass.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) and in the House, Representatives John Delaney (D-Md.) and Ted Budd (R-N.C.) introduced the Children and Media Research Advancement (CAMRA) Act.
