SAN FRANCISCO (March 17, 2021) -- Jim Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense, condemns the recent attacks on members of the Asian American community that are believed to be racially motivated, and again called on social media platforms to help end the spread of hate speech online:

"The recent events involving violence against members of the Asian American community that have unfolded across the country are tragic and unacceptable. We know that the spread of hate speech and the proliferation of misinformation targeting Asian Americans, and other vulnerable groups online, have only inflamed hatred and bigotry offline. It's time for online platforms to step up to the plate and protect the communities they serve. Hate speech and racism in any form must be eradicated at all costs. It will take a collective effort from us all to end racism, and Common Sense will continue our work to support people from every background and racial makeup."
