A New Look at European Families' Views on AI

In the blink of an eye, AI has gone from an idea to an inevitability. It's in our living rooms, our kids' classrooms, and everywhere in between. We're in a brave new world of AI, and families naturally have questions.

Earlier this year, we asked American families what they think about AI. This time, we brought the same survey across the Atlantic.

Families across four European countries—Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain—agree that AI will transform life as we know it, but they have different ideas on what that means. Our research found both similarities and differences across nations and across generations. Teen AI use varies across countries, but most teens agree that schools have a responsibility to teach responsible AI use. Teens in general are more optimistic than their parents, who are struggling to make family decisions about a technology they're still learning to understand.

It's no surprise, then, that families found common ground on the need for AI safety. Fueled by their real and well-founded concerns about AI's risks to kids, families are calling for strong action from policymakers that ensures the technology reshaping our children's future is safe for them to use.

AI is transforming childhood at home and across the globe. The question now is whether we can make sure it empowers our kids, rather than endangering them.
