Age Assurance Attitudes Among Adults

As parents, we can't keep tabs on our kids at all times. That makes it all too easy to ask ourselves:

What are my kids seeing online when I'm not around?

In today's digital world, pornography, gambling, and other adult materials are readily available to anyone who can tap a screen or click a mouse—including our kids. So it's no surprise that adults are looking for a way to ensure that what kids experience online is actually safe for them.

Our brand-new research found that an overwhelming 95% of adults believe children need to be protected from certain online material and features, with pornography, gambling, and online purchases emerging as top concerns. Social media and AI are major concerns too, with the majority of adults supporting age assurance mechanisms for these platforms. Still, despite support for age assurance in many contexts, many adults have questions about how it would work.

The bottom line? Kids deserve to be safe online, and parents deserve a strong, privacy-protective way to keep inappropriate experiences away from their kids. At Common Sense Media, we're going to keep building on our recent progress on age assurance as we continue our work to protect and prepare families in the digital age.
