Common Sense Partners with Sky Media on Digital Well-Being Initiative

Sky to Feature Common Sense Media Ratings and Reviews to Help Families Make Smart Viewing Choices

San Francisco, CA -- Common Sense, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids thrive in a world of media and technology, today announced a new digital well-being partnership to help parents in the U.K. make smart media choices for their families: Beginning in 2019, London-based Sky Media will carry Common Sense Media's independent movie ratings throughout their program guide.

Since its founding in 2003, Common Sense has built the largest, most trusted library of independent ratings and reviews for everything kids want to watch, play, read, and learn, giving parents everything they need to know to make good decisions about whether content is appropriate for their children. In addition to an overall star rating for quality, parents can use the rating to easily discern whether a title contains violence, sex, drinking, drugs and smoking, bad language, positive messages, positive role models, or consumerism.

This announcement comes on the heels of new research by Common Sense and the University of Southern California Annenberg School of Journalism and Communications examining how digital and social media are changing the way we engage not only with the world around us but also with the people who are the closest to us. The New Normal: Parents, Teens, and Mobile Devices in the United Kingdom reports that nearly half of both parents and teens "feel addicted" to their mobile devices and that technology is a daily source of distraction.

"Media profoundly affects our children's social, emotional, and physical well-being, and now more than ever, parents need trusted resources to help them find developmentally appropriate content,” said James P.
