Teen, 15 years old Written byella.holst August 25, 2016
"Before My Eyes" by Caroline Bock is a novel that makes you think about how easily you can let mental illness affect your life, it causes you to do things that you would never do. This novel follows three young adults, who are easy for your teen to relate to, as they struggle with body image, parents who are distant and often more involved in their lives than their child's, and in the case of the third one; paranoid schizophrenia. This novel follows these teen over the course of one weekend and how these days affected their lives. The end of the book is a bit violent and has some themes that may not be appropriate for teens under 15. If your child is more mature and can stomach things like blood and some slight sexual references, this book would be good to read together, its also a good one to discuss. I really enjoyed this book, and I hope you do too!
