Bitterblue is the third book in the Graceling series. Bitterblue, who is now queen, must help her country heal from the evils of her father. The past king, Leck, tortured and raped his victims. There are no details to these acts but they are mentioned. Two characters commit suicide, do to severe mental illness. There is other violence in the form of fistfights and stabbings, but not described graphically. The story itself is one of survival, and overcoming a painful past. The atrocities mentioned in the story may be unsettling for some readers, however if you enjoyed the other books in the series, this one is almost as good. Sexual content is limited to a vague suggestion of sex, and birth control is also mentioned.

I think Bitterblue is not for the weak mined, as to say that there is some parts that can get a bit scary. But it is still a Great book!

Interesting but quite a few disturbing scenes
The book was definitely exciting and held my interest throughout. However, I want to mention that it also had a lot of disturbing scenes. Sexual assault is mentioned and there is a scene where a character commits suicide. The book also contains violent scenes and some mention of self-harm. All in all, I liked the book but it did have quite a few disturbing scenes and is meant for a mature audience.

I am 11 when I read it, some part of the sexual assault scared me. And the killing and suicde scare me a lot. But it have a nice storyline and a really good mystery behind it. Even though there is a lot of violence and people get hurt and die

Great book but to much SEX!!!
Graceling and Fire were great books. my only problems with them was the sex, but in the first two books(Graceling and Fire) the sex parts are not very detailed. But in Bitterblue sex is throne out quite a lot and quite in detail. Another disappointing thing was the homosexual characters Raffin, Bann and many more. It was sad that she had to add that. I use to think Raffin and Bann had the best friendship ever, only to find out that is was love not friendship was very disappointing. I was as if Cashore had to have every character sleeping with some one no matter who that person was.
Beyond that Bitterblue was great I loved all the ciphers in it.

Bitterblue was great
It was great to finally get to the third book of the series but the ending, was very bewildering. Bitterblue was left without any closure, I feel as if she rarely got something good for herself. Her whole life was full of hardships the second it started, she didn’t even think herself as beautiful as she thought others were, so she wanted to be more pretty, she also wanted a happy relationship with a man she desired.

I liked it
I found it was very well written and is a mentor tool for my writings. Now there was a few scenes.... But other than that, definitely worth the read! Fire was my personal favorite though

Awesome Book
There is a positive message about how even when disaster strikers a country can rebuild. It is educational because you learn to write cyphers and write Dellian. Queen Bitterblue is a positive role model because she is the daughter of a mad man and she is still kind and caring toward everyone except for the people who try to kill her.

great plot
Great story in general, great characters. Requires reading of other books by Cashore to fully understand. Pretty weak subplot, love story very undeveloped. Perfect for a sequel.
