A well-written, awesome book!
This is a really great book! I liked it better than the first one. I recommend this book for ages 12 and up, but a mature 10 or 11 year old could handle it. I've rated this book 12 and up for sexual themes and such, not for violence or anything else.
Sexual Themes: In the book, two characters (Beka and Dale) fall in love. Their relationship starts out as just flirting, but eventually they start kissing. Many times during the book, Beka considers making love with him, but they don't actually. However, the chemistry between the two is pretty intense.
Violence: There is quite a bit of violence in this book, but none of it is super bad or graphic. In one chapter, there is a description of them torturing a man, and mention of several different methods of torture. They mention some things called 'the rack' and 'the drink', and though there is a brief description of what 'the drink' does, it's not very clarifying. Basically, the author leaves readers guessing what the heck either of things actually are, so the torture's not very graphic. They do whip the man, and give him 'the drink' (but we still don't really know what 'the drink' is). But Beka puts a stop to the torturing, and is kind to him, and the man actually turns out to be innocent. The rest of the violence isn't bad. It's just some fistfights and other things that are to be expected of Beka since she is a Dog (the equivalent of a police officer).
Drinking: On many nights, the characters in this book go to taverns and gambling houses and drink. A few of them get drunk.
Lesbians: There are a few lesbians in this book, and I don't see why this is bad, but I thought to add it just in case you think it's bad, but I think most people will be okay. And all of the lesbians are really nice, helpful people.
Overall, this book is really great. Beka is a good role model. You should read it, if you haven't already!

I loved the book although it may not be appropriate for some kids. There is cussing in the book it isn't that often probably once every 4 pages. There is gambling and drinking. The gambling and drinking takes place throughout the story so that's a lot. There is also romance through the story but it doesn't get too heavy. Sex is mentioned a couple of times in the story though it is called swive or canoodling. It is very violent too. I think it is a great book for teens if they are mature enough because it is very entertaining and it keeps you excited. It definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.

This was an enjoyable story with a complex plot and interesting set of characters. It's mature, nicely paced, and cleverly wrote. Tamora Pierce did a grand job at making counterfeit money into a quite good book.

pretty good book with lots of action and excitement
I read this book and I thought it was pretty good. The main character, Beka Cooper, is brave and works hard. The story is a lot about her growing up and getting over her insecurities. It's great for teens who like complex mysteries with a strong heroine as the main character.
