Loved it

A story that has love and treachery. People are sexually assaulted and there are vivid accounts for deaths that are bloody and gory. Love can also be found including the main character Sybella and Beast. So cool a favorite of mine. Don't recommend if you have a weak stomach or are faint hearted.

Phenomenal

Absolutely breathtaking. Dark Triumph's protagonist, Sybella, is plagued by a past that is extremely, well, dark. She is a daughter of the god of death, and serves as his assassin, killing any many she sees who bears a marque, or the sign her god puts on a man to show he is to be slaughtered. She's forced into an incestuous relationship with a man she was raised with as siblings, and as far as he knows she is his sister. As a member of the wicked Count d'Albret's court, Sybella is subjected to horrific encounters of rape, murder, and torture. Her father is the cause of countless deaths and has killed all of his six wives. Her whole existence is fabricated around her abbess's promise that she would be the one to kill d'Albret. But time and time again she sees d'Albret commit abhorrent crimes but still he bears no marque. Her abbess has lied to her simply to keep her as a spy. Her only glimmer of hope, the only thing that gave her the courage to return to the court her convent liberated her from, is lie. But then she is ordered to rescue a knight being harbored by d'Albret, waiting to be killed. But the knight's determination to serve the duchess of Brittany and to help every endangered peasant they encounter. She can't help but be fascinated by the knight's kindness, wisdom, and understanding to her dark past. Together, they return to Rennes, the safe-holding of the duchess, and Sybella is reunited with Ismae, the main character of Grave Mercy. Together, the must stop d'Albret and save the duchess of Brittany from French invasion. Sybella develops a relationship with the knight, Beast, and she is able to reveal every dark secret to him in a beautiful love story full of understanding and passion. Their love and loss unites them in a kingdom at war.
