What's the Story?

When SIMON B. RHYMIN' begins, Simon is preparing to start fifth grade. He's excited to become one of the oldest kids in his school and to keep building his skills as a rapper. When Simon's teacher assigns the class an oral presentation about something that affects their community, he schedules Simon to go first. This makes Simon very nervous, but he's brave. He volunteers at the shelter, where he learns about the various reason a person could end up without a home. He also befriends an older man who shares his love of music.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

Fun, heartwarming, and fast-paced, this novel is entertaining and upbeat. Simon B. Rhymin' builds on the upbeat raps that author Dwayne Reed, an elementary school teacher, posts on social media. The main character, an African American boy in fifth grade, is broadly relatable: He's curious about the world, nervous about public speaking, a big dreamer, and a good friend. The narration is punctuated by stretches of Simon's clever raps.
