Being a teenager, this book was a serious wake up call. Suicide is real, and so is depression. This book covers both of those hard topics in a way that laces hope into the despair. I highly recommend giving this to anyone mature enough to read the rather tough to digest content and take away a good lesson. Maybe be careful around unstable people; this could set something off. Vicky frequently seems to lean toward wanting to try another suicide attempt, and she contemplates how easy it could be. These thoughts are wrong (the book clearly lays out how incorrect they are) but it could be tempting to some. Overall, a good read and a wonderful message of hope in life.

wonderfully realistic

I have suffered from various mental health issues for all my life and I can testify that this book definitely tackles it well. Parents need to know that depression, bipolar disorder, anger management, and schizophrenia are discussed and shown in this book. There is some drug use, but it is not portrayed as acceptable. There is some minor and infrequent swearing, mainly "heck" and taking the Lord's name in vain. One scene has kissing. This book has a strong and obvious message of hope, but I would not recommend it to anyone who is currently seriously considering suicide because it could be triggering. Overall, VERY well done. The focus is not on what led up to the suicide attempt, but the recovery from it, which I love. If you have a loved one suffering from a mental illness, this should help you learn a bit about what they may be going through.
