Should come with a warning label!
While I enjoyed this book, I won't be suggesting it for my daughter (12) until she's much older if ever. The book has great history and is very entertaining, but the fact that a "coming of age" story includes a young girl who kisses girls (yes, more than once), seduces an older man and then is almost raped by him, and ends with the young girl wondering if she'd be happier spending the rest of her life with the brother she just kissed or his sister makes me wonder if it was worth my time to read. This overshadowed the wonderful history and friendships within the story. I feel like commonsense should include more of a warning label here about the hints at it being OK to kiss the same gender!

Intensely explores sexuality
Just a warning that this book explores sexuality and sexual violence in ways that I don't think are appropriate for younger readers.
