What's the Story?
MUTT & STUFF is set in a one-of-a-kind school for dogs, with Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan's son, Calvin, in charge of a class of four-legged friends of all shapes and sizes. From dance parties to a home-staged circus, there's never a dull moment in this classroom. But even with all the fun and games, adjusting to school can be difficult at times, so the pups turn to Calvin and his oversize doggie friend, Stuff, to help them through the tougher moments.
Is It Any Good?
Mutt & Stuff offers some decent messages about interpersonal relationships and building self-awareness through the experiences of its canine characters. Whether it's a pup who's missing his person during the school day or a doggie who's fretting over whether his talent can hold up to his friends', kindly Calvin is always prepared to help his friends through these kinds of challenges.
Even so, the show's best quality is its visual appeal, particular for those whose idea of a good time is a gaggle of adorable dogs doing amazing tricks. It's bound to be a crowd-pleaser for both preschoolers and their parents, and, with a little effort from you, it can start conversations about many of the emotional concerns kids of this age face.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the dogs in the show. What makes them similar to each other? In what ways is each one unique? What makes your kids different from their friends? Why is diversity a good thing?
Kids: Do you like to try new things and have new experiences? Are you ever scared to do so? To whom can you turn for help when you're away from home?
Parents: If your preschoolers go to school, have them compare their experiences with what they see in this show. How is this classroom specially made for dogs rather than people? In what ways are their daily activities similar to yours?
