Control, is a masterpiece. The game is just excellent, and totally worth a play, especially if your child appreciates cinema. The plot is great, and the visuals are superb. It is very reminiscent of "stranger things," and the scp foundation. As far as age rating goes, I can recommend this to kids around 15, as there is infrequent strong language (limited to the f and s word), and some gore (not horrid) Its more of your kid won't understand the story at a lesser age.

An Excellent Game That Common Sense Doesn't Do Justice
To start, I think the review done by Common Sense Media is very inaccurate, almost like the reviewer never finished the game and wrote it off as a mediocre three stars and slapped on a ridiculous 18+ rating. Expect a long read ahead.
You will not see "bodies hanging from ropes" and that brings me into the topic of violence in Control. There is some violence (Mainly comprising of dead bureau staff and puddles of blood) and no gore, but it is not gratuitous and although containing very dark themes it is not deserving of an 18+ rating. Hitting enemies known as the Hiss results in sprays of chromatic particles and red light which somewhat resembles blood but is more impressive than disturbing. There are a few types of enemies, the main ones of which are the Hiss. The Hiss is an invading force in The Oldest House (The building that the game takes place in) which can corrupt sections of the building and its workers, either making them float in the air and chant nonsense, or transforming them into many variants of inhuman creatures that you fight throughout the game.
Gameplay itself is smooth and easy to learn as you gain abilities while progressing through the main story and side missions. Throughout the campaign you will come across "Objects Of Power" and cleansing them are what gives you your abilities which include Launch, Evade, Shield, Levitate and more. Controls story is extremely intriguing, as the protagonist Jesse Faden starts the game just as confused as you are, and all this vagueness and confusion is an important aspect of the story that Remedy Games thankfully gets very right. It instills a sense of mystery and makes you want to read every one of the hundreds of colletible documents, videos, and audio recordings scattered throughout the bureaus incredibly detailed environments. Whether it be office cubicles, interdimensional thresholds, or the Astral Plane itself, Control has some of the most incredible visuals I've ever seen in a game. I played through Control on a PC utilizing Nvidias RTX ray tracing technology, and it is simply jaw-dropping. The physics are incredible and every tiny detail is gorgeously rendered with perfect reflections, global illumination, and excellent animations and facial capture.
In terms of positive messages and great role models, that is not a strong point of Control. You play as Jesse Faden as she searches the Bureau for her missing brother, Dylan. On your journey you become the Director of The Oldest House and meet other characters such as Emily Pope, Arish, Helen Marshall, and Ahti the janitor. Jesse is uncomfortable with her role as director at first and slowly comes to the realization that the safety of the outside world is in her hands.
Sexual content is nonexistent in Control. Swearing is infrequent and nothing you wouldn't hear in school or even say yourself. There is drug use, in the form of previous Director Zachariah Trench smoking cigars in cutscenes and ashtrays laying around the bureau. There is no consumerism to speak of, as even food in the bureaus vending machines is contained in labeled white bags. There are no advertisements and no merchandise for the game exists as of now.
Overall, Control is easily one of the best games I've ever played, if not the best. The story is excellently written, gameplay is fun and easy to learn, violence is not too bad, and swearing is fairly minimal. Thank you for reading.

Common Sense Media lacks Common sense in their review
Not sexual, not particularly violent, a bit nerve-wracking and an all-around masterpiece, this is my favorite game of all time!

Amazing game; small amounts of horror and violence.
I didn't expect much going into control, but on refelction I think that it is maybe one of the best games I have ever played. I HIGHLY reccommend it. While it has aspects of violence, there is no blood and corpses do not stick around. There is 'horror', but it is mostly unsettling rather than scary.

Why Control is not a good game choice for somebody under thirteen.
Control is a fun game, but is not really suitable for anybody that is not a teenager. It's not because it is really bloody or gory, but it can be creepy and disturbing at times. The blood in the game does not really look like blood when you are shooting enemies, but you can find realistic blood pools and trails around the game in most rooms. There are also dead bodies that can be found every so often, but most of the time there is nothing super scary or distubing about them. There is one body that can be found throughout the game though where the bottom jaw has been ripped off, but aside from that, the other bodies are fine. Another thing to keep in mind before letting your kid play this game is that there is frequent language such as f**k and s**throughout the characters dialogue. Another reason why I say this game should only be played by teenagers is that it is a shooter game. While some enemies do not resemble humans in any way, there are others that do, even though they have zombie-like features. You also are allowed to kill team meambers in very specific circumstances. For instance, you cannot shoot a team member to kill them, but if you explode something near them, they can be damaged or killed by it. Another reason why a kid that is not a teen shouldn't be playing this game, is because there are multiple places throughout the game where you are required to solve semi-complex puzzles, that might be difficult for a young kid to solve. Also keep in mind that there is nothing inappropriate in the game like sex, so you don't have to worry about that. Also, from what I saw, there are no characters that are wearing revealing or inappropriate clothing. Another thing real quick, one of the characters in the game appears to have a mental disorder and he can be kind of creepy and scary, so keep that in mind as well. Anyways, I think that covers everything in the base game. Overall, I would say this is not the worst game for somebody to play, especially compared to something like Call of Duty or Doom Eternal, but it can still be disturbing or confusing for somebody younger. I would say that as long as you are thirteen or older, you should be old enough and mature enough to handle and play this game, but I would not recommend that somebody younger than thirteen play it, as it can be disturbing.

Reviews given by common sense are not accurate
There is no people hanging by ropes. I never saw that and it does have some bad language its infrequently and never recurs again. The violence is not bad at all unlike what common sense says the blood is hardly but there is no gore and when they explode it's like a balloon. There is many creepy scenes and cussing But if you can get past this it's fine and a great game.

A very mild game compared to M rated titles
Real quick! Parents!! The only bad things in this game is strong language and strong fantasy violence. Ok now going into a more deeper look...
In Control you play as Jesse Faden, a women looking for her brother, Dylan Faden after a childhood incident at their hometown where weird paranormal events happened (which gets more explained towards the end) The bureau, a secret branch of the government that research and cover up these types of events. They end up taking Dylan who they question and mildly experiment on. Eventually you find the HQ of the bureau. This game story is incredibly engaging. In the game you fight these humanoid things called the hiss. When they die they spray a weird blood mist.
You get a gun that shapes into different guns.
You find blood puddles in a lot of places. There aren't any gory moments.
Overall if it weren't for the language I'd put it for 14 and up but people constantly swear. There are trippy moments that hint at suicide at the beginning of the game. You get shot at. You use mind powers to lift objects make a wall of debree to block attacks. You can fly and accidently fall to your death (which happened to me more times I want to admit). You walk into rooms where you hear echoy voices almost like a cult chant. There's a horror element to it as well. Although it never invoked a sense of fear because your a demi god compared to those weaklings.
Before you play this you should play Alan Wake since Control makes references to Alan Wake and the second DLC is Alan Wake themed.
At a scale of 1 to 10 the games difficulty jumps from a 4 to 9 at random moments.
Sense Media are bad at reviewing games...

good game, lots of mind screwery
I played 47 min of it before I asked steam for a refund. its a good game but if you have trouble with unsettling media this isn't the game for you. I normally do good with unsettling things but this was a bit much for me.
