Lackluster and all over the place
Oh this film...I would not say it is good or memorable regardless of how much Ricci, Pullman and even Moriarty throw at it. It is a bit violent and the I am not sure the age range this film is supposed to be for. It seems that the audience is both too young and too old as tis film's tone seems to be a bit all over the place. It is a bit too much like a cartoon and that is not a compliment. It tries too hard to be like the Addams Family and it falls short in many respects. It is all a bit overdone and has a bit of a everything but the kitchen sink kind of feel. It has a few sentimental moments that do their best, but most of the time it is an egregious mess trying to be cute.

Too much swearing
The movie is really good, but why do they need all of the swearing. My family including my 7 year old little sister wanted to watch a Halloween movie, but we had to stop it because of swearing. Such a bummer. Words include bi**h, h**l, d**n, and pi*s.

Great Movie With Various Perspectives
After reading the comments, I see most people enjoy this movie with a few picking it over nothing (e.g. Not an accurate portrait of ghost?). I first saw the movie in my preteen. It was a fun & 'cute' movie, highly entertaining with the trio & treasure hunting & stuff.
As I grew older & revisit this movie, I see more 'layers' of the movie other than a 'kiddie ghost story'. Dr. Harvey (Bill Pullman, excellent as usual) is having a hard time dealing with the death of his wife, & Kat (Ricci, a great break from the cool-headed Wednesday Adams) is having a hard time adjusting her father's constant move as well as grieving her mother on her own. Then, there is Casper grieving his own death as well as his father's death. And then there is Carrigan's mourning her father... not leaving her all the riches. Then there is Casper's heroic act (go see the movie, it's one of the most touching moment), Dr. Harvey's reunion, etc. Etc.
From a child's point of view, it's pure entertainment. From an art lover's point of view, you have to awe at the special effect & sets. From an audience seeking emotional outlet, well, bring in an extra box of kleenex. It's a very touching, warm-hearted, humorous, sweet little movie about a friendly ghost named Casper.
Just a side note, it is quite interesting to watch Addams' Family & Casper & Sleepy Hollow & see Christina Ricci grow from the eccentric Wednesday Addams to a regular teenager Kat Harvey to a beautiful young lady Katrina Van Tessel.

Not for young kids
It is a bit slow for young kids with a lot of long slow scenes. There was a surprising amount of profanity (bitch, piss off, etc). Younger kids will need some explanation of what is happening at times.

Embarrassingly bad
This is a cringe-inducing movie. I felt bad for having suggested it. We had wanted a "ghost movie" that wasn't too scary, and indeed, this is one, but that's the only positive thing I can say about it.
In this film, Casper is portrayed as a weird hybrid of a very little boy (I would think about 6-8) and a preteen heartthrob. The other ghost characters are downright annoying.

Not for 8 or 9 year olds
This movie has a lot of unnecessary language. A lot of use of "bitch." Also, there is a brief scene that shows the Tales from the Crypt fleshy skeleton guy that made it hard for my 9 y.o. to get to sleep. You've been warned!

A Midsummer Scream!
Back in 1995 Casper Christensen had his rise of fame in Danish comedy. The same year Casper was released in cinema, and based on the old cartoons and comics. Other worldy music, lots of slapstick, references for adults, now vanished 90s teen stars like Christina Ricci and some bad language from Hollywood days long gone by.

90s trash not fit for kids
I think this movie is a worthless pile. I mean I don’t expect film or tv to imbue my children with valuable life lessons and and impress important ideals into them, but this film was schlocky garbage not fit for kids. Obviously written by some industry vet with zero oversight or care for what they were broadcasting into kids minds. Sexualizes and objectifies the main character Kat throughout the film. -Casper’s one liner is “can I keep you” Also body shaming by dad about forcing her to wear t shirts at the beach Is brought up at the end (why go there?). On top of this the word bitch is used as mentioned before. However what hasn’t been mentioned is that the word is used twice during the climax of the film. During the crescendo of the film the camera zooms into the lead actor Bill Pullman’s face as he addresses the main protagonists and he yells out very clear and defined “back off bitch” directly into the camera. It is a one liner set up and it’s very abrasive. I can’t believe I let my kids watch that garbage. I had old memories of it being a wholesome movie or at least ok for kids but I won’t be trusting my memories anymore! I am coming to realize that film is generally bad and movies that are descent for kids are rare!
