Absolute Garbage
The other ratings mentioning how little sense this movie makes, the harmful stereotypes, the absolute lack of depth, the number of times they show a male character kissing a sleeping female character, and the truly bizarre cannibalistic scenes are all true. It’s concerning in many ways but, after watching more than an hour of this questionable trash, the clincher came when the main male character tried to commit suicidal after learning his true love didn’t love him back. It even goes as far as putting a noose around his neck and having a seemingly normal conversation with his executioner. There are so many layers of disturbing sociopathy in this one scene I can hardly fathom how this movie made it to screen.
We had a conversations about mental health, misogyny, consent, and control tactics, and I had to name “suicide ideology” for my 5 year old. She later asked me other ways people try to kill themselves.
Really producers?!! This garbage? Of all the stories you could tell?
This movie should be pulled off screens immediately.

A bit wierd
I only watched the first quarter of the movie and already: as others have mentioned, there's a portrait of the prince nearly nude, prince looking at a woman's chest, and some sexual gestures indicating masturbation that I noticed. Not preferable for ages 20+ even, in my case.. definitely not the type of "Kid" movie I'd want to normalize.

Flat and hollow, don't bother
The ability to make an animated film should not give the right to do it. It falls flat on every gag and the rest is just hokey. Kids will enjoy the colourful adventure, but the quality is barely on par with one of those cheap TV animated series made on a low budget. Some very inappropriate humour but kids may not notice.

It has content not suitable for children.
This is not an okay movie for children. The prince puts a noose around his neck and is almost hanged. I believe this sends the wrong message to children and there is a chance this could be something children mimic and could seriously hurt themselves with. There is also some cannibals' in this film and it could be scary for young children. I don't recommend for young children.

Not bad, but not great
Not a bad movie. I honestly think it got worse towards the end as there were a few ??? moments at the end where the movie seemed to stop making a lot of sense for me.
I watched it with my two boys- 6 and 10, both are very sensitive about violence and creepy stuff. Both boys seemed to be OK with the movie. There were comments about the man eating giants though. I thought the eyes and teeth would bother them, but apparently it was their long legs that semi-creeped the boys out. Other reviewer‘s had commented about a dangling head during one of those scenes, because of that I was on the lookout for it and I did see it next to what kind of looked like the flayed body of a small animal or insect, both of which I thought were WAY inappropriate. The only other bothersome part for me was SPOILER ALERT.........the end with the noose and the gallows. I was very surprised that my kids didn’t comment about this but I thought this part could have been toned down some and was not something I find totally appropriate for young kids. I’m sure there’s a different way that they could have done it without being so direct, but as I stated before, towards the end of the movie it stopped making quite as much sense and I couldn’t really buy what was going on anyways.
All in all it was an interesting concept but definitely pushed the boundaries of a G rating.

It's OK.
Like C77 said: Yes, it's inappropriate, and it's pretty predictable. It's obvious that Lenore and Charming are going to get married and live 'Happily Ever After'. But it's good for 5+.

This should NOT be rated G
I’m 19 and I was watching this with my boyfriend. In one of the opening scenes there’s a picture of the main character naked covering his parts which they zoom up on 3 different times!! In Despicable Me, if you’ve seen that, there are a couple instances of showing butts for humor and that movie is rated PG. My eyes bugged out and I looked at him and said “THIS IS A KIDS MOVIE!?” It gets better though... In another sequence, there is a tribe of man eating women which could be quite scary for the young ones. In one scene, Lenore is being marinated in a pot by “The Oracle” and behind her, which my boyfriend didn’t notice originally, THERE IS A GREY DECAPITATED BABY HEAD HANGING BEHIND HER!! That’s enough to give any child nightmares for weeks not to mention how demonic it seems. Lastly, the main character spends a good 5 minutes talking to an executioner who is about to hang him. There were also a couple other weird things throughout the movie that made me question. Weirdly enough I feel like there was some PG-13 content despite it seeming like a family movie due to the animation (bad animation I could say) and the colors and cast of the movie. Just beware if you have young kids. I was disturbed and wanted to turn it off half way and I’m an adult..

Ok movie
Not too bad. The naked man in portrait (he's covering his goods with his hands) seemed inappropriate. The cast is pretty good and although the plot is predictable it was still enjoyable. Music was pretty good and the animating pretty good.

Surprisingly decent for Vanguard Animation
I'll admit, Vanguard Animation's films are guilty pleasures for me. I don't really consider any of them good, but I do enjoy them in their own right. This film, despite its rather poor reputation, is actually pretty decent. In fact, a lot of the time, I found myself enjoying it.
While the animation isn't super high budget, which I've come to expect from Vanguard, I'll give them props for doing the best with what they had. There's actually a few genuinely impressive moments, and the character designs work well for what they were going for. I can certainly say they've come a long way since Happily Never After. Also, the concept is really clever, like, really clever, and I like how the film acknowledges that there is such a thing as too charming.
This is also Vanguard's first musical, and while the lack of singing left me wondering if they really wanted to make a musical, I'll give them props. The songs are actually good for the most part. Heck, there's this musical number with a song from Sia that is legitimately amazing. It's artistic, it furthers the plot really well, it's brilliantly done, it's not just trippy for the sake of trippy. It's an incredible scene, and I can't believe it came from Vanguard Animation of all companies.
On top of that, Charming is a surprisingly likable lead, and he and Lenore work well off of each other. There are two things that prevent it from being great, though.
First off, the humor. While there were a few jokes that I found pretty good, none of it really got a laugh out of me. Thankfully, it's not painful like the humor during the first two thirds of The Seventh Dwarf, but it could have been less obnoxious. Secondly, a lot of major plot points feel rushed, especially the romance between the two leads. Again, they work well off of each other, but when Lenore starts coming around, it feels a tad out of left field, like it wasn't built up as well as the people behind the film felt it was.
Nonetheless, this is definitely a step-up from Vanguard's other works. I actually recommend giving it a go if you're curious.
