my thoughts...

There's more sexual innuendo than usual in this provocatively named film.

"Is he still there?" "You must be joking! 007 on an island populated exclusively by women? We won't see him 'till dawn!"

Octopussy is a 1983 Bond film directed by John Glen and starring Roger Moore, Maud Adams, Louis Jourdan, Kristina Wayborn, Steven Berkoff, Desmond Llewelyn, Robert Brown and Lois Maxwell. Language(2/5): The film’s title obviously uses the word “pu**y”, and the word “Octopu**y” is said 3 times. The film also has 4 uses of “damn”, 2 uses of “G**” and 1 use of “bastard” and “hell”. The film has 11 total curses. Sex, Romance and Nudity(4/5): The opening credits show blurry silhouettes of nude women, with brief glimpses of their breasts in shadow. Innuendos occur often, and women are shown in revealing outfits, bras, bikinis and skin-tight clothing. James Bond zooms in on a woman’s cleavage using a camera, and we see the camera’s perspective. Bond sleeps with a woman offscreen, we see them kissing before getting in bed and we see them lying together afterwards. Bond points out a tattoo on the woman’s back and questions what it is, and the woman says, “‘That’s my little octopu**y.’” Bond sleeps with another woman later on. In a brief scene near the beginning, we see a woman emerge from a swimming pool nude, with her buttocks briefly shown. Drinking, Drugs and Smoking(3/5): A drunken guard is seen with an alcohol bottle in his hand, and when he sees circus performers in the place he’s protecting, he looks at the bottle in disbelief. Bond drinks champagne with a woman while in bed once, and Bond has a vodka martini. People drink beer. A villain smokes cigarettes and cigars. Violence(4/5): The beginning sequence of the film is intense, with Bond leading a missile into an enemy base, which kills dozens of people in a huge explosion. A clown is stabbed with a knife and he falls into a river. The clown stumbles into a rich household and crashes through a window before dying. Bond kills a man by impaling him with a sharp object. In a meat shop, a human dead body is revealed to have been stored in there. A man is executed with a saw offscreen. Bond throws a man into an aquarium, breaking the glass with his face, and an octopus sprays ink over the man’s chest and chokes him to death. Bond fights a man and throws him out of a window and into a river where the man is eaten by a crocodile; we briefly see the man in the crocodile’s jaws, but no blood is shown. Bond kills a man by striking him in the neck with an unloaded cannon. Bond shoots a soldier in the head, with a brief bloody bullethole shown. Bond shoots another soldier in the head and heart, with blood briefly shown. Bond shoots a man, who falls down some stairs. A man tries to get on a train and is shot in the back, we see blood from his mouth as he dies. Bond follows the train with a car on train tracks, and he jumps on the train as a steam train appears, which destroys the car. Bond gets into many fights on the train, beating up henchmen. A villain tries to stab Bond while he has him pinned to a door, but Bond opens the door and throws a knife into the villain’s chest, killing him. A shootout occurs in a mansion. Bond fights the villain on top of a small airplane. Bond hits the villain with a part of a plane, which strikes him in the face, and the man has blood on his face as he falls off the plane to his death. The plane crashes into a mountain and explodes, killing the driver. Positive Messages(1/5): The film does emphasize the destructive power of nuclear weapons and expresses fear about their possible use, and Bond does demonstrate heroism in the sense that he saves the world from evil. Positive Role Models and Representations(1/5): Bond saves the world, of course, but he also murders without remorse. Watching Experience: Quality(opinionated): (My rating) Rated PG-13 For intense sequences of action violence including some bloody images, some sexual content and brief nudity, and brief language.

Underrated Moore flick has great action and amazing villains.

Octopussy is a 1983 Bond movie directed by John Glen and starring Roger Moore, Maud Adams, Kabar Bedi, Vijay Amritraj, and Steven Berkoff. Language(2/5): “Pu**y”, “damn”, “hell”, “bastard”, and “b**ch” are used briefly. Sex(3/5): Implied sex, innuendo, and partial nudity. Revealing outfits, brief nude buttocks, and the opening has silhouettes of naked women with partial breasts visible. Drinking, Drugs, And Smoking: Social drinking. Violence(4/5): A tracking missile blows up a building full of criminals. A man in a clown outfit is stabbed and dies in a window. Bond kills a bunch of assassins by shooting them, stabbing them, whacking their heads in aquariums, and feeding them to crocodiles. A tiger chases Bond. Tons of villains are shot down. A long sequence on a train involves villain deaths, train collisions with cars, and tons of shooting, stabbing, grenades, peril, people being thrown off the roof of the train, and soldiers being shot down with blood visible, one of them from the head briefly. A long fight on a plane at the end involves the main villain being hit in the head, bleeding, and falling off the plane. Positive Messages: Anti-nuke message. Positive Role Models And Representations: Bond is Bond, sexist and murderer. Quality(opinionated): One of Moore's best of all time. Great variety, hilarious puns, and amazing villains and action. (My rating) PG-13 For intense sequences of action violence, sensual content, and brief language.

More of a sluggish Bond film.

This entrance into the franchise is one that features less action but is still a semi enjoyable one.
