A true masterpiece of film, should be required viewing
For starters, I give this 13+ because generally people younger than that can’t truly appreciate how breathtaking these films actually are, not entirely based on content. Other than that, it’s imposing length and long stretches may bore younger viewers. But if you’re willing to commit 3 1/2 hours to watching his film, then definitely do so. It’s a near-flawless movie, where it’s only weakness is the length, it did go on for a bit too long, however nothing to change my vote. The action sequences are impressive, the acting is great, the plot is not overly complicated, the writing is also great, and it’s scope and ambition are truly a sight to behold, not to mention it’s influential tactics for cinema released long after this film. Content wise, it’s got some violence (tastefully done, not too graphic or inappropriate) and swearing (just minor profanities), as well as partial nudity (some men in the film show bare buttocks through a thong-like garment). Overall, a must watch if you’ve got the time to spare, but if you do decide to watch with your younger viewers, make sure they have a bit of context beforehand. That’s all, 10/10 film would definitely watch again

Although war is the main theme, this movie is incredible and very impressive.
Seven Samurai is a 1950's film, so kids might not like the quality. Even so, the movie is not boring in any way. The action and excitement really gets the watcher at the edge of their seat. Since war is the main theme, except a lot of violence, and some language issues, as well. Characters are stabbed, although not much blood is shown in the film. The "F-bomb" is never heard, but "s--t," "b--ch," and "a--hole", are probably the strongest words. Then there are just your average swears such as "damn", "hell", and so on. Sad death scenes happen multiple times in the movie. Overall, Seven Samurai is a brilliant classic I recommend to every teen out there.

Probably the best movie that I've seen and ever will have seen!
This movie is incredible. Made by Akira Kurosawa. It's my most favorite movie yet. However, the movie is mostly about war, but it's still a great Japanese movie. There is a lot of killing and violence, and a lot of sad scenes, too, like when some main and beloved characters are killed by the enemy, which are bandits. A couple times, characters drink wine and one character is shown drunk and tries to fight a samurai who will be his ally. Also, the language in this is really not clean at all. Also, two characters fall in love, and your kid might think that's gross. But the main point of the movie is not inappropriate because of the drinking or love or any of that (disgusting lovey-dovey) stuff, the main problem is the violence. If it had less or no violence, I would've rated this, like, 9+ or 10+, but that's not the case, there IS violence, so I rated this ages 13+. But it still is the best movie ever. So I recommend this incredible samurai movie to your teens, they'll love it!!

A Thematic Masterpiece Without Mindlessness Violence or Sex
Not to be an arrogant elitist, but I feel my cinema tastes are far more mature than the average 17 year old. At this age most normal late teenagers watch stoner comedies or mind-numbing action films and actually think it's good cinema. I watched Seven Samurai when I was 15 and it was one of the first foreign films I had ever viewed so it was pretty rough. I still loved it to death. I watched it again and again and it is marvelous cinema. The apex of cinema in my honest opinion. The subject matter is very mature, yet not violently mature or sexually, just hard themes for younger audiences to wrap their minds around. The societal themes are complex and all have deeper meanings wrapped around the cinematography and excellent dialogue. It will bore kids who have grown up on mindless cartoons, Transformer movies, or just abysmal comedies. That being said, it's perfectly fine for children, but whether they will enjoy it is an entirely different story.

CLASSIC Samurai Movie was the first to incorperate Slow-motion and its unique plot setup
Fed up with the annual hit-and-run raids by a marauding gang of ferocious bandits, the peaceful farmers of a small sixteenth-century Japanese community summon up the courage to take matters into their own hands, dispatching the hot-headed villager, Rikichi, to bring help. When the farmer returns to the village, seven battle-scarred ronin become the defenseless hamlet's new protectors, entrusted with the challenging task of teaching the inexperienced peasants how to fight, in exchange for a handful of rice and lodging. Undoubtedly, before the imminent attack of the mounted plunderers, the odds are stacked up against the farmers and their defenders; however, both have sworn to fight like lions for their freedom. Can the Seven Samurai pull off a surprise victory?

One of the best non-English speaking films ever
One of Kurosawa's best films, plus probably the greatest non-English speaking film ever. Quite a long film, but worth it in the end, the story and cinematography is great, plus the beautiful forest scenery, but this does have violence and some drunkenness, so maybe keep this away from your really little kids.

Revolutionary Japanese film is a must watch.
The Seven Samurai is quite possibly one of the most influential movies of all time. Most movies that run over 3 hours start to feel a bit tedious, however, Seven Samurai is not one of those films. There is something always happening in the story, wether it be character development or movement in the plot, the filmmakers make every minute count and it really shows. I have no complaints about this film and it is perfectly appropriate for children aged 10 and up, it does contain a lot of violence, though, due to its age it is not nearly as graphic as a lot of the things that kids a watching today. The film also displays positive messages such as helping others and overcoming tough situations.
