What's the Story?
THE RIDICULOUS 6 tells the story of "White Knife," aka Tommy (Adam Sandler), a white man who was orphaned and then raised by a village of peace-loving Apaches. When a man appears, claiming to be White Knife's biological father, Frank Stockburn (Nick Nolte), and is then kidnapped by a gang of outlaws, the young hero feels obliged to save his errant dad. But first, White Knife has to find a way to get the $50,000 dollars the gang says Frank owes them. Leaving his Apache sweetheart behind, this dutiful son sets off to rob villains -- only of enough money to pay his father's debt. Along the way he meets five more men who, by sheer happenstance, are also sons of Frank Stockburn, all by different mothers. These new "half-brothers" make up a motley band of six misfits as they join White Knife on his quest. Their journey takes them through wild country and a series of dangerous encounters with hooligans, bandits, and evil power brokers. They find and lose a fortune, face death time and again, and must ultimately find the skill and courage to prevail against all odds.
Is It Any Good?
There's simply nothing to recommend about this movie, an equal-opportunity offender that makes fun of women and ethnic minorities and attempts to find much of its humor in toilets and genitalia. The actors chew the scenery. The swaggering slapstick action is exaggerated and poorly executed. The insults and sexual jokes are relentless. Even scenes that are funny -- and a sequence in which Abner Doubleday (John Turturro) invents baseball is truly canny and hilarious -- go on too long. Never have so many solid performers gotten together to create such a senseless, tasteless disaster.
