A lot or a little?

The parents' guide to what's in this music.

Positive Messages

This song is filled with optimism. Lyrics such as "I'm never gonna look back / whoa, never gonna give it up" remind kids to always believe in their dreams, because with "all the possibilities / no limits just epiphanies," there's an endless amount of opportunities to turn their dreams into reality.

Positive Role Models & Representations

The members of American Authors met while attending the Berklee College of Music and formed a band to pursue their dreams of creating music. They also created a music video for "Best Day of My Life" to promote pet adoption.

The music video shows a man and his furry monster friend going to a strip club.

Kids may associate the song with one of several high-profile brands it's been used to advertise, including Lowe's, the MLB Fan Cave, the opening sequence for the 2013 ESPN World Series of Poker, and the official trailer for Vince Vaughn's Delivery Man.

Drinking, Drugs & Smoking

The music video shows a man and his furry monster friend drinking in a bar.

What parents need to know

Parents need to know that "Best Day of My Life" is the third track on American Authors' debut studio album Oh, What a Life. There's nothing iffy to worry about in the song's upbeat, clean lyrics about having a positive outlook on life and never giving up, but the official music video shows a man and his furry monster friend drinking in a bar, going to a strip club, and getting tattoos. Kids will be more entertained by the adorable dog-version music video for "Best Day of My Life," which shows one lucky bulldog's adoption day in an effort to promote pet adoption.

Don't like the official video but the Dog version is perfect by American Authors

The song is happy and has lyrics like 'I will never give up'. My 9 year old doesn't need a video of tattoos. The dog version is gorgeous. I lo... Continue reading

What's the story?

The band members of American Authors have mentioned that BEST DAY OF MY LIFE was created from pieces of five other songs. It was originally released in 2013 as a single off American Authors' self-titled EP and has gained tons of exposure after being featured in many high-profile TV spots, including a Lowe's TV ad, the MLB Fan Cave commercial, the opening sequence for the 2013 ESPN World Series of Poker, and the official trailer for Vince Vaughn's Delivery Man.

Is it any good?

Kids and adults will love dancing to the feel-good vibes of "Best Day of My Life" -- and who can resist singing, "This is gonna be the best day of my life / my li-i-i-i-i-ii-ife" during the catchy chorus? Fans of Imagine Dragons may hear a likeness to "It's Time" in the track's opening banjo, and there's no question that "Best Day of My Life" isn't breaking any musical territory. But this upbeat, folksy pop song will appeal to kids and adults alike, and lead singer Zac Barnett's enthusiastic vocals give off so much positive energy that it's hard not to smile while listening.
