Woah! A bit mature

I am pretty liberal parent and so watched this with my younger teens. While the core story and episodes are fine there are many graphic images related to teenage sex including teenage sex, oral sex etc. The girls talk about sex and fight far more than they talk about survival, and swear in most sentences, which is a bit over the top. I wished the filmmakers had toned it down just a bit in the name of executing an otherwise decent teenage drama. It is way more explicit than the summary written on common sense

Proceed With Extreme Caution!

Not for teens as some would suggest. This show has a disturbing amount of profanity and shows someone of faith swearing (JFC) and not holding to her belief system. There is a lot of feminist, anti-patriarchy content (men are responsible for the ills of the world essentially). There is also drug use and sexual content. Now, there are some who find this okay, but if you are going here for a review, you probably need to know all of this, so you can make an informed decision.

Unnecessary Profanity

The show has an interesting enough plot, however, it focuses too heavily on Leah's story and most of her pain and suffering is self-inflicted. She equates love with torture-but doesn't include the fact that she lied to her boyfriend before sleeping with him, which resulted in him unknowingly committing a crime of sleeping with an underage girl. She is a creative mind, but incredibly weak of character. The one "Christian" girl is, as always, an incredible cliché when it comes to Hollywood depicting Christianity-all surface and cultural-no theological grounding or clear understanding of the Bible. And the profanity is out of control. We get it- darkness is cool and trendy- but it is as if having any good qualities is seen as weak in showbiz now. It is as if Hollywood wants teens to wallow in their lack of self confidence instead of watch girls overcome hard things and therefore, be inspired by good character. Instead, bad character like jealousy, selfishness, anger, vulgarity, depravity is not just revealed as a reality in some cases-but something to just accept and live with. While it is an interesting show, it is overall, depressing and brings moral down-not up.

👎 I wish I had known it would go this far

Sensitive Sally beware!!! Honestly I would prefer that my kids never watch this. Which is sad, because the storyline is actually good. Season 1 was probably 16+ and was intriguing enough that I was looking forward to Season 2. I’m so disappointed that within a few episodes it took a violent turn that was beyond my limit when the boys are introduced. I honestly couldn’t finish watching an episode, but I’m pretty sure there was sexual violence, which I think was completely unnecessary and traumatizing to me as a viewer. I wish there were better warnings about this kind of thing so that I don’t have to spend months of trying to get it off my mind. When I watch things like this, I think to myself “why did that have to be there? Or shown in that way or that detail?” I wish “teen shows” would leave these disturbing scenes out. There are so many other ways you can have a character be humiliated or emotionally and psychologically damaged. Why THIS?!?

Not for younger teens

Great show with a very interesting plot, but way too much unnecessary sex, and swearing. I’m pretty relaxed about my teen seeing and hearing that stuff, but this was a LOT. One character starts a game of Would You Rather, and says “would you rather eat plain yogurt for the rest of your life, or s*^% off your Dad?” Things like that. In my opinion, this should not be rated TV-14. It really should be TV-MA.

Definitely 16+

This is a great show to binge watch but there’s a lot of profanity and references to sex, so it’s most appropriate for mature 16 year olds and older

Great story line but outrages profanity

I would not let me kids under 16 watch this. The profanity level is outrages. Lots of inappropriate references too. This show would be just as good without all of that. I get the fact that they are trying to bring transparency to the troubled teenagers but there should be a line somewhere. Unfortunate.
